Before Tobi lost his mask who did you think he was?

I always felt like it was going to be Obito, because it seemed like whenever Tobi was around, so was Kakashi, and it always focused on the two of them. But I didn't want it to be Obito...it seemed too boring

At first, I theorized it was Madara re-built into Obito's body.
Then, I changed my mind and it figured it was an unnamed, new Uchiha.

That would've been more interesting to find out his motives and find out about his history and what not

Well, at first I thought it was Uchiha Kagami only because I thought Kishi wouldn't make it as obvious as Obito and because he was missing from the Kyuubi incident. When Kakashi and Gai joined Naruto, I was pretty sure it was Obito from the way he talked to them.

b.) The mask comes off and underneath is Madara. He then summons the long haired tobi from the hidden mist, the black fire mask tobi that attacked Konoha and the good boy Tobi and they turn out to be respectively- Izuna, Shisui and Obito. Tobi turns out to not be a name, but a CULT and the reason we've seen Tobi in so many different masks, different voices and fighting styles is because they're all different people, all joint by their kamui. EVERYONE WOULD'VE BEEN RIGHT.
