Battlefield 4 is coming out this Fall on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. While PC players will be able to enjoy 64 players and frame rates as fast as their hardware can push, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be limited like BF3.
DICE’s Patrick Bach confirmed in a recent interview that the game sticks with 24 players on consoles and a steady, 30 fps frame rate. He said that it would be possible to crank up the frame rate to 60 fps and add more players, but that would mean cutting down on features in the game. Features such as destruction and vehicles. Bach said:
“It’s a balance. I would never sacrifice the core Battlefield experience to get higher frame-rate.”
Bach added that higher frame rates were possible and that “we’ll see what happens”. We’re guessing here that next-gen versions of Battlefield 4 on the PS4 and Xbox 720 will indeed run at higher frame rates and possibly with more players as well.
DICE has yet to officially confirm Battlefield 4 on next-gen systems, but everything is pointing in that direction. Recently, game retailer GameStop leaked in an email that Battlefield 4 is coming to PC, current gen, and next-gen platforms. As Bach puts, I guess we’ll see what happens.
