We were first to report that Battlefield 4 will use a brand new game engine, and it now appears that other EA games will be using the same engine as well. It was previously thought that the upcoming Dragon Age 3 and the next installment in the Mass Effect franchise would use the older, Frostbite 2 engine which powered BF3.

But now developer BioWare — an EA subsidiary — has confirmed that Dragon Age 3 will in fact be built with Frostbite 3, the brand new engine that powers Battlefield 4. BioWare’s Alan Flynn confirmed via Twitter that their upcoming games are now being built with Frostbite 3, adding that the engine is “awesome”. Which it no doubt is.

DICE has gone from a developer creating Battlefield to providing engine and technology for many other EA games. Medal of Honor Warfighter was built using Frostbite 2. Upcoming EA games such as Army of Two, Command & Conquer Generals 2, and Need For Speed are all build using DICE’s technology.

However, Battlefield 4 will still be as the biggest and best showcase of the Frostbite 3 technology.
