Indeed he has a chain/rope, however if his fingers/hand/arms are tightly wrap, he wont be able to lift them back up.
In all honesty I don't think Hidan is strong enough to resist the lions main constriction.

From what we've seen, a big portion of Jiraiya's fighting style is with his toads. .
Jiraiya's long range attacks won't deal the damage that is required to put Hidan down for the count.

The way I see it, Jiraiya beats Hidan down a majority of the time with a mix of fire style/hair techniques. But without Intel (And I doubt Hidan is cocky enough to give away his advantage here) Hidan is bound to get a hit in at some point in the fight.

It's inevitable that Hidan wins this match up. Hidan wins at a High difficulty, his saving grace is his immortality here. Well, and Jiraiya can't use his toads/Sage Mode.

His hair is enough to catch hidan. He can also summon gamabunta to stomp on hidan so he cant move and he can take out his limbs. One of the frogs could also use strong suiton to destroy the drawing or breaks hidans body. Finally the frogs has genjutsu, and once he is caught he would be done for. Finally with sage mode he can prevent any of hidans attack since he due to enhanced sense.
Also you think Jiraiya would wait for hidan to draw a circle ritual on the ground or keep it lying there? Not to mention if He could even draw Jiraiyas blood.

There's just so many possible way to defeat hidan.

But to sum it up: Hidan > Base Jiraiya
SM Jiraiya > Hidan

My point stil stand, his lions main hair will coil around hidan rendering him motionless. Also Jiraiyas massive firestyle attack will roast hidan until all that's left of him is charred ashes.

Even with a handicapped of no SM and Toad summoning, Jiraiya still has a fighting chance to beat hidan.
That alone goes to show how weak hidan really is.

Now if we take out Hidan's scythe what does he have? No skill in taijutsu, genjutsu, no physical strength, and no ninjutsu elemental release whatsoever.

He charges right in like a moron more than part 1 naruto. Jiraiya is more perceptive than him any day.

I can't even overemphasize how weak hidan really is, TBH I don't get why get supporters that overestimate him. XD

It was only because Itachi had amaterasu, without it, both of them would have been stuck there.

He wasn't over confident, he even have a back-up plan to retreat when things get rough. Also he was watching and observing Pain the whole time and was gathering intel on him.

He only went back because he want's to do something right for the shinobi world for once by learning the true secret of Pain.
That is what you call plot progression and passing the baton to naruto.
