Walking over to the tree, Kyon gets into a traditional sumo stance, with his knees bent, and his arms spread out shoulder length. He thrusts his right palm out first and makes contact with the tree, and at the same time, he pulls back his left palm, and brings it to his side. He alternates his movements, switching his left and right palms, making sure to hit the tree with his whole palm. He focuses more on the power behind the strikes, and not exactly the speed of each hit. After 5000 strikes, his palms are left bleeding, but the bark on the area he has been hitting has fallen off and the inner wood is slightly red with the blood from his palms. Determined to continue with his teachers orders, Kyon works through the slight stinging on his palms. Rolling up his pant legs, Kyon gets into a Gojung Sogi a begins to kick the tree with a side kick using his left leg. At first it is slightly painful as his exposed skin makes contact with the bark, but he eventually becomes conditioned to the feeling. With this leg kick, he focuses on speed and power at the same time. With each swing of his leg, he releases short breaths out of his mouth. After 2500 kicks he switches to his left leg, and changes his stance accordingly. After competing 2500 kicks with his left leg, he goes back to finishing the palm strikes, because he gave them a rest. Continuing to strike the tree, Kyon slowly starts to speed up, keeping the same power that he had previously. After completing the rest of the palm strikes, the skin on his palms are ripped up from hitting the bark, and there is a hole in the tree where he was hitting the tree. He then finishes his leg kicks with the same technique he used previously. This time, while still focusing on the speed and power of his kicks Kyon turns up a notch and kicks the tree with amazing power that shakes its leaves with every kick. After the rest of his kicks Kyon is exhausted and he falls upon the ground
