Those are Images without a background.
Example:

I don't really mind if they have the background on the avatar is signatures they make.

as he said..and bigger the render better will be the ava..small ones look pathetic..:|

No it's not that but when they add effect most of the time it automaticly goes on the background to, and they could render it themself but it takes alot of time and effort.
Sig's and ava's are normally better i'f you provide the artists with renders i'f u want give me the name of the character i could find u some renders?

Okay they are "Adam Jensen" from Deus Ex and "Avatar Roku"
