I've had a few friends nagging me to watch this anime for a while, so over this past weekend I took the timeout to smash back all the episodes and even read all the current manga from 32-49. I must say, this series has been amazing so far. For anyone who hasn't read the Manga and doesn't want to have anything spoiled I recommend you stop reading her. Although I won't mention any spoiling information as such.
What I love about this series;
- Unlike a lot of other anime/manga, a lot of the important or good characters ACTUALLY DIE.
- No plot holes, or not that I've noticed? Everything that happens gets explained to make perfect sense to the series.
- The plot twists have been crazy and very unexpected (for most people I'm guessing?). They have completely surprised me and I've become very hooked, in only 2 days haha!
- It doesn't have a shit load of filler like Naruto.
- The flashbacks aren't so annoying like they are in Naruto, they are reasonably interesting and short.
- Fast plot progression.
- Personally I don't read the info they have in the breaks, but I like the idea that its available. It gives a lot background info to those who are interested.
- It has a sense of realism to it as all of the characters are reasonably normal looking, unlike a lot of animes with DBZ styled characters.
- The storyline is fairly original and 3D gear is very unique!
- The fighting is pretty good, and fair, the good and evil forces balance out.
- The effective use of graphic content. In this series it is actually used to draw out emotion from the characters, rather than to just be gruesome.
- The manga is drawn really well, unlike Naruto it involves a lot more detail... For me I find reading Naruto like a storyboard for the anime, whereas for A.O.T I actually get a good idea about whats going on in fights etc. When I read A.O.T manga I can imagine what it will look like in the anime a lot easier than I can with Naruto.
To be honest there is only one thing I dislike about this anime/manga, which isn't even the original creators fault. What I don't like is a lot of the poor translation. A lot of the manga has many problems with the translation that don't make sense, its not that big of a deal but I personally find the grammar pretty terrible. Also for me I find it annoying that the spelling for a lot of the characters (anime and manga) keep changing, or the whole name its self changes. Such as 'Erwin and Irvin', I mean, which one is it!? And Reiner and Ryner... Also, sometimes they call them titans and other times 'eotens', I just find it a little annoying.
Comment your opinions on this anime, what you like and dislike? Also tell what you agree and disagree with about my review?
