Yes his soul has no reason to be bound to the real world anymore so his soul was set free and the Edo tensei was released.


On topic: Shikamaru will definitely lose his cool when he sees Asuma but When they fight Shikamaru will win, or maybe Asuma's soul will be set free before they actually fight... like Sai's brother...

Asuma is a close range shinobi and shikimaru is a long range shinobi so i guess asuma might have a tuff fight with shikimaru because shiki would try to do a shadow trap on asuma
