You mean like public schooling? Do you mean Tax Free schooling? I don't completely understand your question.
not talking about tax :p Just about that you don't have to pay for going to college, or university.
In a few countries it's already free, but what would be some good arguments why it should not be free?

ofc ourse something about the tax.. you'd have to pay more taxes.
But I want some more arguments

Anybody can study anything. If you need tutoring from a skilled laborer they'll charge a consultation fee. If you want certification you have to pay for the required courses and/or pay the fee to take a test. I can't think of a country where this kind of thing would be free at all.

Helikido has it right universitys make enough money from TV that it could pay the staff no problems so the only increase in taxes would be to cover the utilities.

-Well charging tuition pays for professor salary increases which leads to the ability to hire the best of the best which increases education over all.
-The fact that most colleges are independently owned means they MUST charge students to attend or the school would not be funded whatsoever and would close down. And without being governmentally funded, it leads to the creation of schools with a greater diversity than the cookie cutter state schools can be.

Are you writing a paper?

School.... I've had a few teachers tell me school was a business, not a school. Lol, I was like Da Fuq?? I never went back there again. That was 11th grade.

What do you think of that?

If the students don't pay - the taxpayers pay.
Depending on the current socio-economics of a country it's to decide which possibility is the fairer one.

EDIT: Why do you need more arguments...?
Do you have to do a homework? XD

I see many people haven't quite understood what the OP meant. It referred to a human right on free education.
And there's no argument against! Everyone should have that right, although that's not the case nowadays.

if you're good at something never do it for free

why teach somebody something for free when i can make them pay me money to learn

you do know professors, janitors, administrators, facilities, utilities, equipment requires money, right?

Maybe the teachers were disgruntled with the way the school keeps cutting their pay, comparing themselves to corporate workers and how the companies make a profit off the backs of their own employees.

first of all, i'm all for free public schools and community colleges. their not perfect but they are better then no education at all.

now, some arguments one can use against free education are:

1. it doesn't guarantee success and you might still not get a job. so basicly tax money is wasted on kids that won't land a job that requires the skills they are taught. it might be better (even for the kids) to go to work at 16 and get experience rather then education.

2. it's inefficent. most adults don't remember most of what they were taught in schools and thats because they never use them after they graduate. it's simpler in universities where you choose what to study but still some precentage of students fail and so it's wasted money for everyone. whats more the grading system and tests are extremly exploitable and don't reflect the skills a person have. it's more cost effective to learn how to answer test questions rather then understand them. making money spent on salaries for professors or publishing education books a complete waste.

thats pretty much all i can think of. again in my scales the benefit overweight the cost but those argumants still have validity.

The idea of paying for education gives you more of a reason to spend your money well and make the most of your education.

Besides that, **** paid education. It's absolute bullshit. You can technically teach yourself anything; you're just paying for exams/qualifications and the service.
