I used to be very self aware, until I realized my self awareness led me to be overly critical of myself in situations that didn't merit criticism; I'd do things like second guessing myself, and doubting my own capabilities because of my overt self-awareness. You'd think being aware of your flaws and being able to access yourself in an objective matter would make things like self-improvement, and decision making easier, but I realized long ago that it doesn't matter how aware you are of your problems if you can't fix them.

Nowadays I try to take life one day at a time, and it's honestly improve my quality of life in terms of esteem. Life can be easy if you make it easy.

@bold: That actually sounds real. That's what being a real person is, not some perfectionist ROBOT that still isn't good enough.

Yeah, some people are into tons of hyper control. They're basically saying they aren't good enough, and they KNOW it.

It's funny because, a lot people do a lot of things in effort of becoming there own idea of what a "better" person is..when it's really just self-sabotaging and imagined, in the first place.Too many high expectations.

Self-awareness doesn't always correlate to taking action; that's the sad truth.

What you're referring to is what's called the "Imposter syndrome," where people constantly underestimate themselves.

I do criticize myself. My reasoning is unbiased and rational as much as I try to make it to be.

But what is "objetively"? People Live their Lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That is how they define "Reality" . But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? They are merely vague concepts... Their "Reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to be simply living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?

Really? :lol

True, self awareness is the beginning of all self improvement and action taking. I think in my case, my high conscientiousness in unison with my self awareness led that made me to be overly catious, bringing about self doubt.

Absolutely! Without me thinking objectively, I would be blinded with subjective beliefs that have no truth in them.

Am I aware of who I am as a person? It's impossible to say. I prefer to not describe myself. Rather, I choose to exist as I think I should, or as I want to, and allow the people who perceive this existence to decide what I am like (since it is likely that I will lie to myself). That way, I cannot delude myself by thinking that I am some way unless it is reflected in my actions (or other people's perceptions of them). However, there are flaws to this. I could behave in a disingenuous way for the sake of being perceived the way I want to be - a bit of an elaborate ruse, but I wouldn't put it past myself. More importantly though, since I am a very introverted/private person, there are not many people who have enough data to form a comprehensive opinion of me.

This was something I struggled with for a while, and it actually feels very off-topic now that I am reading it back lol. In a way, maybe it kind of answers the question. I am definitely a highly introspective person, though that does not necessarily make me self-aware. I am less worried about lying to myself about who I am these days, but I would still feel uncomfortable if I were asked to describe myself (it is awkward for me, but I also would rather have people form their own opinions; it's lazy to just believe what I tell you). I guess the difference could be quantified as me putting less importance on other people's opinions, using them for self-reflection instead of allowing them to define me. Though I'm not sure if I ever truly did that before anyway...this post is kind of a mess lol.
