Well what if that's not the only reason? What if Sasuke has some bigger plans? Like to take Kaguya's powers and use it as his own in order to take over the world. It is the most hyped up fight, there is bound to be some serious story behind it. Right now the story has moved away from Sasuke and moved on to some other important matters. I am sure he still has some darkness inside.

The story, without a doubt. Couldn't care less about pairings. I feel like Kishimoto included them for the sole reason of a bigger fanbase, and is constantly trolling the fans of main pairings, which, i must say, has earned him my respect at least in that department.

I like how he also draws insignificant one-panels of "development" (Naruto getting CPR, Sasuke and Sakura's eye-***) and the fans flood each other with arguments. That's kinda genius...
