I'm well aware of the risk associated with starting your own business, freedom comes with personal responsibility because you're trying to be independent.

From your post it sounded like your job was the main source of your unhappiness and not even that but that you're stuck it with for the next 40 years, I suggested what you could potentially do about your situation. You can blame the system but it's not likely it's going to change in our lifetime. You shouldn't worry about what you can't control, think about what you can.

No, I'm not planning to do the same work that robs me of my happiness for the next 40 years. I am working on getting a foothold for my future. People bring up optimism in some posts as if it's the opposite to realism, that's what I was referring to.

It's a reasonable assumption since nothing was said on optimism yet people describe it next to realism.

I give myself 5-10 years before this post is me. For now, I'm a bit of a pessimist.

It's my experience that most Realists are actually Pessimists in disguise.

OT: I'm a combination of Realistic, Pessimist, and Optimist depending on my mood and the situation. It's very rare for one person to be just one in all aspects of their life. Will you have the same outlook on life at your child's birthday as your parent's funeral? Who knows, but I know I don't.

By bringing up optimism it makes me assume they interpreted what I said as pessimism because that's how people view realism or they'd be realists.
