Are we all nerds?

I'm not a nerd on the outside cuz hang out with the cool kids but only like 5 of my friends (my true friends) knows I watch anime so Im a nerd on the inside

more than half of my friends dont even know what anime/manga....my girlfriends never heard of it either??....but yeah,the friends who do know,dont call me a nerd...im the coolest short guy they know

Shoot. I've actually been hangin back with some of my friends. And one of them Made fun of this guy. and he went on to say. he was watching Naruto. then the rest went in to say Dang he was watchin some of that G** S***. i was like d*** ...

So yeah i guess to some people who aren't into manga/anime or simply put "cartoons" to people who dont even know the difference. Its kinda nerdish.

I went on to say hey i like Naruto. and it made those people quit laughing at the person they made fun of. but im sure they was still laughed at me under there breath. i coulda easily fought them in a heart beat for even saying something about naruto.

but i just can't beat up my friends that have no clue that i even read naruto. in the end i think there the nerds. for watching nfl football to much. when they never played the sport.

Mainstream manga, like Naruto/Bleach/One Piece etc. are considered pop-culture and so, reading them you're not considered a nerd. When you migrate to a large source of manga and enjoy a more widespread library of manga, then you go into the realm of nerds and geeks.

Cool has always been associated with people who do what they want and don't care what others think.
Nerds have always dressed, acted, and did things they liked no matter what others thought.
In fact people now want to be a "nerd" look at the thick rimed black glasses, suspenders, etc...

Totally agree. Alot of ppl on here who claim they are "cool" also seem to hide that they like naruto from others because they fear being judged. If you care that much about what ppl think of you, than you are already not cool. Just be yourself

A nerd is someone who makes lots of money, has good friends, is really smart and knows lots of women. That's what a nerd is today. If you aren't a nerd then you must be a jock, and jocks grow up with back stabbing friends, no job, they aren't intelligent and women will have nothing to do with them because they're broke. ^_^

I understand what you are saying, but you are wrong in all of the sense. A lot of people have a lot more things in common then you might think. Although common interests and things of the like are what generally what group people together in most school settings, that is not the only determining factor. A lot of people are also more likely attracted by the way you dress and interact with others. You can be the most "popular" kid in school because you are outspoken, participate in certain events that get you well known, AND be a fan of manga.

You have a point, but I believe the angle you tried to approach this question is wrong. Anime doesn't really belong to a certain social class, I am no longer considered apart of any social class because I am no longer in school, but I am the only one of my friends who actually follows manga and anime, of course my friends call me a nerd sometimes, but everyone has something that may consider them a "nerd"

It is hard not to sound conceited when talking about this but i am decently popular at my school and play a variety of sports and am usually getting drunk at parties on weekends. Everyone knows i have a nerd side but it doesnt define me or my personality it just affects some of my interests but its all about how you carry yourself that defines your image to others.
