Of course, here on the Base you can get away with the "we like what we want" rule, but in life are we (you) branded as nerds?
Manga and anime are generally accepted by those who are believed to be of a lesser "social class." I'm not trying to offend anyone, so before you get all worked up and what not, consider answering my question to the best of your abilities.

Manga and Anime aren't accepted "lesser" social class people, it's more accepted by Asians. I'm not 'branded' a nerd amongst a friends, but rather with my family because I understand math to a better ability than them. My friends just rank me as a normal dude.

I don't see why this would anger people but I've seen people practically have massive heart attacks due to the smallest of comments.

Technically yes, but society is changing. Nerds are cool now. Things that were considered nerdy back then, aren't. Comics, for example, are at an all time high, especially since they dominate the movie screen. That's not the answer to the question, but some notes.

So, yeah and people in my part of the world may call me one. They either have before or have called me variations, like calling me a kid for liking "cartoons" or whatever, but hardly any one has called me a nerd (especially recently. I hardly even hear the word) and if so, then so be it. I'm awesome xd

Overall: Yes in societys overall view, but we are who we are.

Yes, I'm a nerd. However, I'm in college where that kind of thing isn't as important. If your intelligent and successful, it doesn't matter so much what your interests are. I have friends from all circles.

Yes, you've brought up a valid point. It can certainly depend on where you live and how people in society react to the certain thing.
However, since we're both American, I guess we can agree that most of the society think anime/manga is for nerds. Actually, a comic book, per se, is usually associated with nerds. Too bad I don't care.

Meh, names like nerd and geek are just more stereotypes made up by society. In all honesty I was brought up with two brothers and a mom that loved video games, and she shared that with us, which eventually led into anime, manga, etc. for me.

It doesn't mean I'm bound to one life though, I still go out with my friends and party, drink, meet new people and socialize. But I also go to conventions and cons because they're fun and they interest me. Don't let yourself be defined by media and stereotypes, live life how you want to.

just WOW I have no idea what social life you are living or what kind of people surrounded you everyday. Most of people I know who watch animes are social and good looking. Not using forums though

Nah, well maybe a little bit but I wear my leaf headband on my bag and nobody has once mentioned it. Though I think i've only like met two actual fans...were a rare breed in these parts.
