Manga and anime are generally accepted by those who are believed to be of a lesser "social class

just WOW I have no idea what social life you are living or what kind of people surrounded you everyday. Most of people I know who watch animes are social and good looking. Not using forums though

No need to be rude. I said "generally", but it definitely depends on where you live and how people react to it, as the user with the long name mentioned earlier.

I happen to have a wide variety of friends ranging from complete nerds to preppy jocks and they all know about my love for anime. It is how you hold yourself. I read manga in class all the time and talk about it with some of my friends and I am not ashamed or act pathetic when someone asks what I am talking about. That shows the people that I can like something like anime and still not act like a "nerd". I consider myself to be one because I also like video games and stuff. But based on the "nerd" stereotype, we would be considered "nerds" to arrogant people not getting to know who we really are. None of us should worry about being "nerds" though because we are all freaking awesome.

Nah, well maybe a little bit but I wear my leaf headband on my bag and nobody has once mentioned it. Though I think i've only like met two actual fans...were a rare breed in these parts.

I am a junior in highschool and have only met one other person willing to go to a convention with me or that has even heard of "Clannad" (everyone has heard of Naruto at one point in their life). I know what you mean a though dude, I can't find real anime fan IRL ever. But the moment I get on the internet they are everywhere. That is why I am always on my computer xD

I'm not, i am a "cool kid" at my school and i also play American Football and start at Middle linebacker for my highschool team. I'm also a very good Hurdler for my track team, and at the same time i LOVE manga/anime. It is honestly the only thing other than sports that can keep me entertained for a long while. Although none of my friends really know that i like manga and anime, they know that i play games on xbox like Naruto SUN Generations, and DBZ games. They make fun of me for that alone so im afraid if i were to tell them about the other anime and manga that i actually watch i would be made fun of and even lose some friends xD

I wouldn't label myself a nerd, as I do enjoy Naruto but not as much as I enjoy playing RB for my highschool JV team (I'm a freshman), all while Working out, and overall just chilling with girls, and guys(as friends of course..) I won't tell anyone that I like anime/manga, as it's not the "cool" thing at the moment..

It depends in your definition; some are, some not.

I like anime & an occasional intellectual debate; I from the ghetto so it's hard to get that where I stay.

But some of you do need to understand that the +rep on here is nowhere as important as the + rep out here but it's your life & you should live it as you see fit.

Agreed, but as long as each category of people that you've mentioned is satisfied with what they do, I don't think they should care.
