An hbo series is supposed to be on its way for Monster, which might raise popularity... but I do hope it's done right!
What is it about & how old is it ?
Well it has little action compared to the more combat-centered manga/anime. The pace is usually the reason why somebody might quit the series. It tries to keep in touch with reality, with a possible exception of the antagonist although it's usually just symbolic. The plot's basically about a famous surgeon (way better than the others working there) who strongly believes in his morals, but gets punished for following them by the hospital, since he defies their wishes in doing so. He accidentally creates the "monster" in one of his choices, and decides that it is his job to kill the monster and right his wrongs. The past of the monster becomes clearer as time goes on, but you can say is not quite clear and is very open to interpretation by the end (making several theories). The series strives off the monster and "its" charisma x_x I love Urasawa's writing style even though I know it's
definitely not for everyone
The manga started in 1994 and the anime in 2004... the anime is completely true to the manga so it only depends whether you like reading or watching
