They have series with tough chicks and female writers, etc. in Shojo.

They range, just how shonen has different types like HxH, OP, bleach, but instead of the males being the main one it's usually a female and the other females aren't so useless like in shonen.

But for the stuff geared towards younger readers it's mostly positive.

I will say 10 could be a good age i did not read the original but also it depends on how mature she is i mean i say 7 may be to young but if she was mature for her age may 9 could be okay.

Three things:

1) Where are your parents? It's a bit odd they're not deciding something you consider important enough to corrupt her view on *** (though I somewhat understand this, the parents may not have any idea what anime/manga is like).

2) Have she ever watched movies or cartoons with suggestive content in it?

3) There may be more effective material (and more appropriate) out there for the goals you are trying to achieve.

Shonen in Japan is aimed at 12 year old boys, the age that it is made for is twelve, so that would be the age to let her start reading.

If she is very girly I would start her on shojo, try fruits baskets, I have never spoken to a girl who didn't like it, in shojo like fruits baskets, card captor and sailor moon, she could start at eight.

Don't just judge the manga that you read, lots of manga is aimed at younger audiences but remember some shojo is very inappropriate, so check it out first.
