Rationale:
Thus far we have Madara repeatedly surprised by how much Kabuto knows about what it is that he's up to (ex. Mokutoun (wood element) user poison preventing its use in Yamato, [in theory Zetsu] ). Now there are many other areas where Kabuto seems to know more than he would alone. I'm not sure how much Orochimaru told Kabuto because it's not like they were equals. Further Kabuto has Orochimaru's powers, via his DNA, but not his soul.
The main hypothesis is the following.
1.) Edo Tensei has been optimized by Kabuto, and the ones he summoned must obey him. Thus, he can ask them anything, and they have to answer him with the truth.
2.) I don't think Kabuto knows as much as he does simply because of Orochimaru or his time in Akatsuki. I think he's smart, but that he's also using Edo Tensei to learn secrets about Madara, his plans, and others.
3.) Kabuto is using or will use Edo Tensei to gain an edge before battle by asking his summoned ninja questions.
Example Applications of Edo Tensei for information:
i.) He could easily summon Nagato and have him tell him everything he knows about the Rinnegan, what Akatsuki was up to prior to his death, Madara, etc. He could summon Itachi to learn more about Madara, the MS, EMS, and Sasuke. The list continues with other shinobi such as Jiraiya (sage mode, Naruto's seal, the toads) and beyond.
ii.) In the recent Naruto 515, of the many shinobi Kabuto summoned, he could order them to tell him everything they know about the shinobi they worked with. For example, he could have Asuma give him everything on Shikamaru, Chouji, and Ino. Along with this, what he knows about the leaf Jounin and Konoha tactics. Information is critical in war, and it would seem that Edo Tensei provides a major advantage.

I'm curious if this use of Edo Tensei has already crossed your mind (it's not groundbreaking ...), or if it seems reasonable, or point out obvious flaws. People have been focusing on Edo Tensei in battle, while it seems like a perfect jutsu for information gathering as well.
