Writing is cool, I love to write as well. I did writing in college, I worked on scriptwriting too. You don't actually need a degree to be a writer, however it will look good in your CV when you're looking for a job
Studying does help when you're writing articles for a newspaper/magazine, it helps to know how to write professionally and use correct structure. With scriptwriting you need a bit more guidance just to get the structure right. Anyone can actually write a novel whether you studied for it or not, although you will need creative vocabulary if you want it to be interesting.
BTW I did not include grammar etc. if you struggle with this then writing is just not for you, when you study creative writing they expect your grammar to be on par already.
