Obito has changed from an idealist to a realist. Now in real life the idea of being idealistic vs. analyzing reality can go both ways, but in a manga like this the idealists are probably going to win. The other side will have good arguments supporting them, but the "good side" will inevitably trump them...
So basically if you look at it from the manga's point of view then he's wrong since Naruto's obviously going to be the exception but it becomes more debatable if you don't look at the manga's intentions.
But first people have to understand what Obito exactly means by "trash".
