Preach. I really wanted a spin off about Sasuke, Founders Era or even just about the 7 team as adults. It didin't need to be about their kids to be awesome.
If you watched the episode you'd realize Boruto only used shadow clones after testing his opponent out with basic CQC with a shuriken setup. Naruto never did this, it was akin to Kid Sasuke. Iwabee is far more experienced, being in the academy for 2 years vs Boruto's literal first day.
Yeah I don't really understand what OP is talking (or complaining about). I think people also have to understand that Boruto hasn't really learned anything yet - bar maybe the shadow clone jutsu, because he hasn't started his academy training yet. I don't know why he would pull of anything extraordinary without being called a 'Gary Stu' or what-ever, but he even outsmarted and outclassed Iwabe once or twice in that match, despite the large gap in experience (Iwabe studying for two years -- repeated, and Boruto who literally just started that day -- two weeks after everyone else).
Boruto started the fight by testing Iwabe out in basic close quartered combat. He wanted to see what he was capable of.

When that failed, Boruto decided to be more strategic with his performance. He threw shuriken so that Iwabe would focus on dodging it, and he used that moment of distraction to speed behind him, and launch a combo attack.

We have to keep in mind that Iwabe even had the best scores last year or so when he failed, and Iwabe was still praising Boruto:

, obviously since he ranked number two in the overall physical assessment.

after the shuriken setup, clearly stating that Boruto is a strategic fighter.
After everything failed, that's when Boruto decided to use shadow clones. Which boogles my mind how OP watched the fight and

, after everything that happened above.
Even then as soon as he started using his shadow clones, Boruto used the landscape to summon a clone, have it attack Iwabe in his place, and then sneak attack him after the clone disappeared.

But that seemingly failed too because Iwabe is just more experienced with fighting as a shinobi, and is plainly just faster and stronger than Boruto overall (ranked #1).
That didn't stop Boruto towards the end getting a nice combo in with the shadow clones when Iwabe thought he had the main one down. If anyone looks at his performance and tells me that is Naruto fighting, I'm gonna slap them silly. Idiotic :lol
Oh yeah and I forgot to mention that Iwabe used the camouflage technique and a smoke bomb. I think the overall fight was more ninja-esque than Bijuu-bombs and giant FRS being thrown. But when they do throw in a balance between action and strategy, people seem to skip it all together.

THANK YOU! This was a return to form seeing Taijutsu and the basic ninjutsu put into play. By the time he makes Genin he is already suppose to proficient in 3 Nature types so it stands to reason that SP will use this segment of the story to have him
Learn them one by one....uh assuming Boruto was telling the truth about that.
Of course it is. Major rule in fiction is that in any series only the first or the second part does well. The rest is crap. The authors try too hard and ruins the unique aspect of it.
I don't care what anyone says the only character Bort reminded me of is Naruto. I mean in the first episode he completely changed a boys outlook on life and turned him into a total fanboy just by getting loud and giving a speech as well as fighting a little bit. The second episode he changes another students mindset just by getting loud, fighting and giving a speech. If that does not remind you of Naruto then you have not been paying attention.
