“Strange,” whispered Iskandrous, holding his palm against the smooth prismatic violet crystal rupturing the ground beneath him. “They’re spreading.” He looked around him, gazing out into the fields and toward the mountains as if the answer would appear before him. “But why?” With a chisel in hand, Iskandrous tapped at the purple crystalline structure emerging from the ground. But his efforts were in vain, the structure would not budge.
Suddenly violet bolts of energy spiraled from the purple crystal formation, shocking Iskandrous who instinctively pulled his hand away, slightly singed. “Shit,” he cursed, punching the ground beneath his feet as he landed on his back. But he learned so much in that singular moment as the energy that shocked him triggered a familiar sensation: energy of similar origin to that of the Scarlet Rot. “How…?” He asked, not daring to go near the crystal structure again. It was similar to the Scarlet Rot in origin, not in its nature. As if it was a sibling or…
“There exists other beasts.” The conclusion came to Iskandrous like a heavy weight striking him in the gut. “The Basmu’s rampage was only a beginning. A prelude for something far worse to come.” Iskandrous looked back down toward his hand, gazing at the effects the lightning singes left behind; but what he saw shocked him, his index and middle finger, which had suffered burns, were now turning black. Necrosis.
Iskandrous stood up and ran. For he knew, somewhere, far away, a beast stirred.
Little known to Iskandrous, the very beast that stirred did so within Falnir’s body, now entombed in the crypts of Irkalla. The wound inflicted by the dagger wielded by the knight who slayed him began to fester with remarkably purple Void energies, similar to that exuded by the crystals that caused Iskandrous’s hand to fall dark with necrosis. A festering wound that seeped into reality itself.
