right, now just to clarify, do you understand how you make the lightning in the clouds, ie, how is it made in a thunderstorm?

I'm assuming that I'll be making the lightning by turning my Raiton chakra into it and sending it towards my target. It's apparently not known exactly how lightning is made naturally, but I always thought that it was caused by friction between clouds.

correct, lightning it caused by friction in the clouds, and that is what you are trying to achieve... you are making actual lightning, not raiton.

*As my Raiton chakra is in the clouds, I attempt to move the clouds across each other through manipulating the chakra. As static electricity builds up between the clouds, I await a lightning strike. As one shoots down, I quickly use the chakra that I had in the clouds to direct the lightning to a targeted area.*
