1.) The attack is internal, meaning it occurs within his body. So pulling him aside doesn't do anything.

2.) I was never engulfed in the water. Plus, it's Grimm's technique

And you already tried to counter the jutsu, but failed earlier. If you fail to get out of it after one try, there's no second chance, because the second jutsu that I used to kill you kicked in. And no going back and changing moves.
