This is a thread for those NB users who are living in America or have lived there for the most of their life. And I want to be clear that this has not been made in flaming purposes nor do I want to blame anyone in here. I'm just curious since it's after all a serious matter and it obviously is a cultural (American) thing. And it can't just be blamed by the lack of excercise.

Reason why I made this thread is this:

About one-third of U.S. adults (33.8%) are obese.
Approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese.

-The source for this info is: the National Health and Examination Survey (NHANES).

When I watch American movies I notice it's a tradition in there to make a majoynnaise or peanut butter sandwhiches..? And what's the other sweet thing called...anyways that surprised me 'cause sandwhich should be healthy..there's alot of f*cking calories in those..from where I'm from we just use margarine, cheese and a slice of ham in it. And I eat like 8 sandwhiches in a day --> I/We (as nation) do not have obesity problems.

And I also heard from a friend of mine who was an exchange student in US that Americans daily regimen consists of from a lot of white grain products. And that you eat veeerry fat rich meals for breakfeast. Like bacon and eggs etc..that's what messes me up, breakfeast should atleast be the most healthy meal in a day?

So I want to ask you guys living in US: From what kind of meals does your normal day regimen consists of? Ingredients etc..
If you answer you eat four times in a day and two of them are warm meals that doesn't tell me anything. So I'd like to hear specifics like for example: do you use lot of side dishes in your meals? do you use only products with "normal" fat levels and not the light type ones? I'm just curious.

~So, replies, questions, thoughts as for what you think are the reasons why Americans have a serious obesity problem..?~

I think the main issues causing obesity in this country (USA) are:

1) the overly large portions served by restaurants (a freaking "small" combo is HUGE)

2) the vast amounts of greasy, fat-ridden fast foods consumed daily (because its cheap I guess - I've grown to hate fast food myself)

3) it seems like all our drinks have high-fructose cornsyrup as one of their top ingredients (NOT good for you)

Not all Americans are fat - but when I look around ... how SH*T there are a lot of them! xd

Of course, my girlfriend is a Dietary Manager so that helps me stay away from the "bad" stuff - though I do splurge every once in a while xd

Are Asians?!? Have you ever seen an obese Indian?
Just saying...

It's a know fact that Americans as a nation have a problem that most/none nations do not have. At least as serious as that.

Well that is that is the point behind this thread..what is the reason for one third of Americans to destroy their health as a nation.

Food intake is a big reason why obesity is a problem. But it's also that it is readily available at around every corner. Also the fact that nowadays, people are just not as active. Some people I work with will jump in their car to go a half mile (800 meters for you metric minded folks) to another building in our complex. Our (Americans) daily activities is mostly at rest.

Anywhoo, back on topic,

Breakfast: Sausage, egg sandwich in the morning with OJ.
Lunch varies from subs, pizza, pasta, pit beef, etc.
Dinner: Usually depends on how I feel. If I eat at home, I have steamed white rice with whatever in my I have in the fridge. I usually end up making mixed fried rice with it. If I eat out, it's wings and beer.

Oh, I allow myself to drink one 20 oz of Mt Dew.

It's true I don't see a lot of obese asians, but a few, but the most of them are slim, at least in in mine country:p

As for Americans, I think its because of the restaurants there and they're lazy I think, based on what i see on tvxd

The problem with America is that the FDA ( food and drug administration ) allows companies to put out food's that are dangerously unhealthy for people to consume!

The additives they put in food are extremely addictive, there have been studies comparing food addictions to that of alcohol or heroine.

I'm a vegetarian (for the most part) I indulge in some seafood occasionally and maybe an omlete if I'm feeling like one. The main problem with America's food consumption is the fact they are going to continue to put additives and unhealthy ingredients into food as long as it is popular and affordable for people.

I'd fall under what the medical system considers "obese" at 6'3(190.5 CM) 290lbs(131.8 kg). However, while I'm a rather large person, I'm also far from obese. I'm a very active person and a lot of what I do requires heavy lifting, which my body thankfully is large enough to help me do.

The BMI system that America uses is EXTREMELY flawed. Let me give you an example of someone who is overweight according to BMI:

The man on the right is Steve McNair. He's 6'2(188 cm) and 230 pounds(104.5 kg). That puts him at 29.5 on America's BMI system. That's only .5 points away from being obese. He's considered a borderline obese man.

As you can see in the picture above, he's FAR from obese. There's a huge problem with America's "fitness" judging system. While I'm sure out obesity rates are higher than what anyone would like, it's no where as bad as people make it out to be, because they use an EXTREMELY flawed system.

I'm pretty sure USA is ranked 4th not 1st for the most obese, so clearly you should do some research lol just FYI, and I live in Australia so I can also say Australia is pretty obese too.

Also here you go

First two replies about what do you eat to this thread and seems like we already got to the source of the problem. I bolded all the fat rich foods and yeah I do eat those myself every once in awhile but to put them in a daily regimen?

I think the main issues causing obesity in this country (USA) are:

1) the overly large portions served by restaurants (a freaking "small" combo is HUGE)

Good points. As we see from above replies atleast that 2nd part is true.
3)Can you give an example of those kind of drinks?

Yeah not all but fact is that 1/3, that's alot. Causes whole lot of other problems too.

The problem with America is that the FDA ( food and drug administration ) allows companies to put out food's that are dangerously unhealthy for people to consume!

Thanks for your post. Didn't know that.

But is it really that the problem is FDA? 'Cause I really can't believe that America has different kinds of food than the rest of us?
From what I can tell from the first two replies that listed their daily regimen that the problem is cultural. People there just seem to be eating that stuff on daily basis 'cause that's the culture here. And with common sense I know that sausages, waffles, burgers and pizza should not be part of daily regimen 'cause they are not healthy. You should eat those sometimes yea, but not every day. Don't they teach that in schools there?

And for the record, I myself eat pizzas, kebab and chips like every weekend. Sometimes on week too. And I drink beer often too. But my food regimen consists of lots of other good food in part of those. I do not fill my regimen with all the bad food, and that seems to be the problem in US. You make a habit of what should be done sometimes.

That maybe true about the system but even if you are getting close to being obese then something must be wrong. In my mind a 190cm and 131kg person would be atleast borderline obese if not obese. Not trying to be mean, but just laying it out there. I haven't seen you so I can't say is it because muscles or what. As for that other guy, well can't see his lower body at all but he doesn't seem obese yeah. And doesn't fall in the category 'obese' for a reason then.

Fact is the system is there for a reason. If someone has a reason to check if he's obese then he probably is. 'Cause blaming the system like that in my mind is just finding excuses and not confronting the real issue but who am I to judge.

How the f*ck does that seem indian to you? ;D...

anyway yeah I mentioned Asia as a whole so that's what you probably meant but India is a big part of Asia, at least if you look at the population.
