He probably wasn't even holding it as tight as he would with an actual Katana. What makes you think Sasuke couldn't get hit by his own flames, or cut up by that same sword? The Raikage wore his Lightning but still got cut by his own finger. I'm trying to say no Amaterasu user has ever gotten hit by their own flames to say they're immune to the shit.
