Am I the only one who found Neji's death bittersweet?

no...the sage was just told about a boy with blue eyes who would learn the names of all tailed beasts...that prophecy could have been referring to minato for all anyone knows...naruto just HAPPENED to be the main character

No? He was specifically talking about Naruto. He couldn't have been referring to Minato because guess what? It wasn't him.

Kishi makes a lot of dark theme seem true in Naruto, such as fate being inescapable and hard work being negligible (Hard work will only beat genius, if the genius does not work hard). Although I dislike Neji dying, and more so that it was for a pairing that still needed a movie because Naruto is stupid. I also don't see the connection of Neji's death helping NaruHina? Was Neji's life blocking it or something? :lol

It's even worse when you consider that child Neji survived being impaled by a projectile way more deadly than a tree-branch and from a much further distance.

@bold lmao..same here. Whenever I see posts claim Neji's death was for Naruhina, I always wonder if I've read the manga wrong xD Because the pairing didn't happen after Neji's death and when it did happen (years later if I might add) Neji wasn't even mentioned.
Kishi wanted despair for Naruto...Kakashi, Sakura or at least Shikamaru would have been the way to go but killing kakashi will leave the Obito case hanging, killing Sakura wouldn't have made any sense and killing Shikamaru would have just been cruel since literally in the previous chapter the dude lost his dad. Neji makes more sense than anyone else imo.
But it still doesn't forgive the manner of death...It could have been done better..It wasn't bittersweet for me..It was pure bitter tbh

"Way more deadly"? No way.

Look at that thing. It doesn't "only" impale you, but as soon as it does, a bunch of branches extend from it, doing unbelievable ammounts of internal damage.

Even Tsunade would struggle to get up from that.

I would have been more okay with kishi killing neji for naruto could have despair but his reasoning from that interview I can't understand. I agree that nejis death was just bitter .

Not true, considering the fact that there was no way for the toad sage to know Naruto's name (Doubt there was even an Uzumaki clan at this point in time). But he saw a vision of Naruto and knew exactly who he was talking about. Hence why there was confusion and they first thought Minato was the child of prophecy.

hell no. that was easily one of the worst parts about the manga, especially after we get the reason behind his death.

Neji told Naruto that fate is something that cannot be escaped. Was he right? Turns out despite being talent-less as a child Naruto was never meant to be a failure. His father was the legendary 4th hokage, Naruto held the soul of the inheritor of ninshu, and he was a jinchuriki. Seems to me he was destined to become savage.

Neji on the other hand was also destined to not achieve his full potential within the Hyuuga clan because of the branch of the family that he was born into. And in the end, just like he told Naruto. Neji died protecting Hinata(although it was his choice to do so, he still could not escape his "destiny")

I always thought it was random and disappointing for neji to be the only one of his generation to lose his life, but as u explain in this it makes sense. Especially with new boruto series most likely play a big part in his life.
