Sometimes Itachi succeeded (Passed his will onto Sasuke, stopped the Edo Tensei) and sometimes he failed (Obito etc) but at the end of the day, even the very greatest fail.

And praise does not = Greatness.

A person could praise a child molester, does that make them great? No.

Tobirama is largely the reason that the village survived, by implementing a schooling system and defence organizations protecting the village on the inside and out.

obito didnt give a fuk about itachi, and black zetsu is a moron who also stated he thought pain was unbeatable. zetsu had no grounds and no evidence to be saying any of that, also if itachi was invincible how come he never made a move on obito when he was alive? guess zetsu didnt think that through.
and it wasnt a lie. obito did train itachi, and he did say MAYBE itachi could beat him if he knew everything about him, but itachi did not know everything and thus failed to assasinate him blind. much less defeat him head on.

since when is canceling kabuto, kimimaro and chiyo "saving the narutoverse"? are they that big a threat do you think? anyone who he "saved" by ending ET DIED ANYWAY when juubi got revived. itachi wasted his time and efforts on a weaker villain when he could have stopped the return of a god.
and my favourite character is sakura so i dont give a shit if itachi's above her.

Itachi ran from Jiraiya to save the lives of Sasuke Naruto Jiraiya Kisame and Kurama all at once. He escaped using a jutsu (Amateratsu) that would've killed Jiraiya if he attempted use it on him.

itachi attempted to murder kurenai asuma and kakashi, in cold blood, beat sasuke ot near death and tortureed him to mental breaking point, which could have ended in sasuke being in a permanent coma, tried to let kisame cut narutos legs off and left kakashi in a possibly permanent coma. all of which would end in disaster if orochimaru made another move on sasuke.
