An attorney for the family of teen clockmaker Ahmed Mohamed is demanding $15 million from Texas officials, along with an apology for how Mohamed was treated when he brought his homemade clock to school.

Mohamed is the 14-year-old Texas ninth-grader-turned-celebrity who was arrested at school after a homemade clock he brought in was mistaken for a bomb. He has since been honored everywhere from Google to the White House.

Mohamed’s attorney sent letters to the City of Irving and the Irving Independent School District adding new details and accusations to the story, with the family alleging that authorities “sought to cover its mistakes with a media campaign that further alienated the child at the center of this maelstrom,” the Dallas Morning News reports.

The Mohamed’s are asking for $15 million in damages, as well as apologies from key players—the school district, MayorVan Duyne and Police Chief Larry Boyd, alleging “They stoked the flames. They tried to push responsibility off on the victim—Ahmed.”

Lesley Weaver, spokeswoman for the Irving school district, said in a statement Monday that the school district’s attorneys “will review the information and respond as appropriate, as with any legal matter,” reports the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.

Attorneys for the family said they would give the school district and the city 60 days to comply before filing a civil lawsuit.

Seems eeever so slightly overboard.

Only slightly? He is trying to en-cash that stupid watch to the max. He may even succeed but that watch looked like anything but a watch.

He's still suffering emotionally, apparently, and wants to take it out on his fellow students and his city as a whole.. Good guys, the Mohamads.

Something else kinda funny, Ahmed's sister was once in the news for threatening to bomb her school. Whether it was true she actually said that or not cannot be proven. But either way some time later, Ahmed brings his clock (that looks just like a ****ing bomb) to school.

I had really hoped to never see this family in the news again. Just listening to him ramble about all his inventions was enough to cause an aneurysm, afterall, who doesn't love soldering CPUs?

*Puts on tinfoil hat*

He received the exact treatment he was after. Dismantling a store bought clock, only to reassemble it in a suspiciously packaged container was never going to end well and I'd put money that he knew it all along. I could imagine a child doing it with innocent intentions, but at 14 years old you would know better.

He knew alright. In one of the statements he had mentioned that he fixed it so that it doesn't look like a bomb..Secondly, there was no reason to set an alarm that would go off in the middle of the class. He probably meant it as a prank/troll attempt and school over reacted by calling police. They should have called his parents instead. But then it was not the first time he was in news either. Plus, some news articles said his father was somewhat already and has run for president in Sudan twice so they are not retiring from center stage that easily.

Something else kinda funny, Ahmed's sister was once in the news for threatening to bomb her school. Whether it was true she actually said that or not cannot be proven. But either way some time later, Ahmed brings his clock (that looks just like a ****ing bomb) to school.

Lesley Weaver, a spokeswoman for the district, said school officials can’t release any information about the 18-year-old sister’s episode because the Sudanese parents won’t sign the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, The school has already sent the form to the immigrant Sudanese parents, but they won’t sign it, she said.......

..........

The sister claimed after the arrest that she had been suspended from a school for several days. “I got suspended from school for three days from this stupid same district, from this girl saying I wanted to blow up the school, something I had nothing to do with,” she said, without providing evidence or proof.

The episode occurred around 2009, she said. The scare happened in “my first year of attempting middle school in America. I knew English, but the culture was different, the people were different,” Eyman said.

I have heard similar, though that article is new to me. I would very much like for it to be a prank, but if his family has a history of acting out then I feel that the father will milk this for his political motivation.

And yet the girl who was suing the car company because there father died in a car accident was being called worse names.... it may work but the problem is that in this case the kid and family comes of as an opportunist. It all comes down how good you are at creating dramaWhile there are countless such cases where people who suffered due to such prejudices -this case won't help them. Rather it would somewhat works against them.

Wait why is she suing the car company? The car had an accident. The company has nothing to do with it .
