I have to write one and I chose to base it on the Sci-fit genre. I have two ideas for my main character and I'm conflicted about an option which I should choose. Should I base my character on an another planet and have him discover Earth and begin to interact with the humans? Or should I base him on Earth and have him meet aliens from another planet? Either way it's about a boy discovering a whole new world.

While an earthling discovering another planet is fun; making up a history/language/culture/customs of an entirely new species is difficult.

The alien boy discovering earth would be easier because you wouldn't have to explain it, you'd only have to explain as far as you wanted the character to know.

my opinion would be..go with the 2nd option..it seems human friendly.humans can enjoy it.
and also..making a story from alien's point of veiw wil be a lot more harder.

Well if the main character is human the reader will probably relate more with him and probably get a deeper sense of familiarity than with an alien.

However, if the main character is alien the reader may find his story more unique or engaging.

Personally I think you should go with what you feel most comfortable writing with. I'm not a great writer, but I hope my opinion can weigh in.

An alien landing on earth is better.

If a human discovers alien life on his planet...his only choice really is to see the personality and customs of that set group of aliens. The problem is they are still on earth.

With an alien landing on earth, he is truly walking into a world he has never known.

That's my thought process anyhow.

That doesn't make sense. Just like the alien going to Earth, the human going to another planet is seeing a whole new world. Basically, in one scenario you're saying aliens have customs/personalities when a human visits them and you're saying they don't have that when the visit earth. Either way, both humans and aliens are seeing new worlds, but you can't say aliens have customs in one scenario and they don't in another.

Number one is way better , well in terms of simplicity of the plot.

Well if your imagination can take it, choose number 2. But you need to know more about space and planets, invent things, names, creatures, lots of extraordinarydetails.

i think it's easy to make a story where a human discovers another planet. it has been done before and it's easier to make a human character then an alien one. but an alien can literaly be anything you want, it can have history completly diffrent then those of humans. not neccesarily better like most do, sometimes the history of the aliens can be worst. maybe it's the alien that is surprised by human civilization rather then the other way around?
