Do they ever explain the spelling mistake on Ace's tattoo?

It says A-S(crossed out)-C-E

Was this a "mistake" by the tattoo-er in the comic or did Oda misspell Ace on the original art and keep it rather than redraw him with the name spelled right?

I don't remember an explanation in the Anime was wondering if it explained in the manga or if Oda ever mentioned it during an interview
