Are you alergic to reasoning? It was implied in the Manga not just once, I will not bother searching for it of course. But you look to lack the knowledge on what genjutsu is. Genjutsu is a type of ninjutsu which falls in the category of Yin release, as said by the 2nd Mizukage. As for any release, you could just control the element trough sheer will, like when Naruto uses Rasenshuriken, it's just mixed with the Chackra physical Manipulation, or Asuma incircling his blades with Wind chackra, and many others. As for genjutsu, you can certainly impair some kind of Yin release, to alter the flow of chackra in some user. The Sharingan is something that could probably facilitate/enable, this type of release, thus enabling a kind of generalistic Genjutsu-Sharingan as appointed. Although you can use this kind of release in a controlled manner, with kekkei genkai or hand seals involved, getting us to the field of the Sharingan genjutsus, Izanagi, Izanami, Mangekyo's, Tsukuyomi, Kotoamatasukami, and probably some others still unknown.
