Like Zanji said, the biggest problem isn't really the skill level, I mean, yeah, it would be a problem but it isn't the biggest, but rather it's the mindset.

In a nutshell, here's how it is:

Old generation is generally laid back about battles. It all boils down to fun, and stuff like "Oped" customs made battles fun, not frustrating (I remember one of my first fights with Roku; the moment he started using the Music Arts against me was the moment that I started to crap my pants, but it was still one of the first battles that really got me into the RP nonetheless). The new generation is, no offense, but ridiculously uptight and serious. I mean, I'm not as old a member as Zanji or Roku or the like, but from, say, late 2009-the present, battles have become less about fun and more about winning. Not even winning the battles though. It's become about winning the arguments that happen within four posts. That gigantic difference in mindset is the principle that this tournament will probably end up falling apart on.

This isn't just theoretical either, I've seen numerous cases with older members going against newer members and both sides coming out of the battle utterly annoyed and fed up with one another. Tournaments never had a great history on NB to begin with, I believe that there were one or two tournaments that were even finished here, and they still didn't run exactly smoothly anyway, so add that history onto the gaping hole between the battling demeanor of the "new generation" and the "old generation," and the chances that it doesn't end in ruin are slim.

It's putting a generation focused on winning and arguing for as long as it takes to win against a generally more skilled generation focused on having fun. If you think about that statement for a moment, then it's pretty clear that it just won't mix in the way that you might expect. I'm not talking about individuals here, as obviously there are exceptions to both the generalizations that I've made about the new generation and the old one, but they are reliable and relatively proven generalizations nonetheless, which hold fairly true the majority of the time.

ok sorry riku but i only read the begining of this and i already have a problem. not all of the new gen says the move is invaild or goes running to the mod. i have fought alot and what i really notice is thats the beginners who have no idea what to do so they need to go to the mod. normally because they where never thought by a real sensei but by senpais. and frankly my fights normally endin me admitting defeat or a draw once and a while my enemey loses or an small agruement breaks out. if i have a rpobem with my enemys move i take it up with him/ her via vm.

it takes more then an ass load of strong customs to become strong like hellsbadass. i'm basicy there a bunch of customs and every canon ninjutsu my allows to know masted.

btw hells is an old member and the last time i foguht him he called my move inavild >.< even the oldest gen of members on nb do it >.> but frankly i bearly do.

I do suggest that you read the entire post before arguing, I did say at the end, and I quote: "I'm not talking about individuals here, as obviously there are exceptions to both the generalizations that I've made about the new generation and the old one, but they are reliable and relatively proven generalizations nonetheless, which hold fairly true the majority of the time." =/ Can't just read the beginning of the post and say that it's wrong, especially since you probably didn't even get to the brunt of my argument, which is toward the middlish. But if you still disagree for whatever reason, I'll further explain my reasons later.

and whoever get to the final round fights (unless its its 2younger generation or 2 older generations)

by younger generation i mean the regular people on NB. the ppl who had a hard time getting training and still do. ones who barley get special treatment. and ppl barley know. or your just ...NEW

Older generation to me is OVERPOWERED RPS. Senseis/Senpais/RP Mods. Ones that can tell you about the forums like the back of their hand. who get special treatment. (not being biased. but its the truth)

to name a couple younger generation is

Me,Rodu,Sadoku,Paul Uchiha,Oaucus,Hertic,Blade,Imlazygetoverit,kitten,becca. etc (dont take this as an insult pls)

older generation

Crow,Darui,Scorps,Yard,Howard,Drizzy,Loki,PERVY SAGE xd.,Scary yamato, Toku, wesobi, jacob moore, johnity (Sorry if i misspelled it) norweigion (sorry if i mispelled it) so on so on

((I for one would love to fight scorps and the NOR guy. i have nothing agenst you scorps but its kinda been a desire for a while. but the NOR guy.... U_U)

it would be 2vs1. 2 younger Vs. 1 Older

I've seen a lot of "what about me"s and "Why arent I on the list?"s. This is what I would say is the chief difference between the New and the old generations (Although this doesnt apply to everyone). We didnt fight for recognition (well, not all of us). We fought because it was fun, and it showed in our battles.

I for one will say the illusion of "Scary Yamato" is more impressive than the actual. If I were a newer member under a different name, I wouldnt have nearly the recognition I have now even if the skill level was the same. Those of you that know my history know that I dont win many of my fights, but the fights that I give (when I really give them) are extremely theatrical. Lately its been hard to find the time and motivation to fight because the base has changed and evolved along with my resposibilities, so I dont get the same feel that I used to get when having a battle.

I wish I could give Roku tons of rep for everything he said because I agree with him 100%, however the rep machine thinks I need to spread my love around more. ¬_¬

Looking at my post, I realized it started as something to make a point to "just relax and not worry about making a name for yourself so you can have some fun" into an old mans rant. xd
