A theory on Law's background
Law's past has been hinted to since his fight with Vergo in Punk Hazard. We've learned very little, but here is what we do know. Vergo did something to traumatize Law after Law angered him. Law used to be a part of Doflamingo's crew- or at least was affiliated with them. Law wants to avenge this 'Kora-san'. He respects the name 'D' to the point that he would die so Luffy, presumably, could start a 'storm'.
Now, what I propose next may be a bit far-fetched, but bare with me and allow me to propose my evidence.
I was browsing through pictures of Law on google and noticed something very interesting. He shares a striking resemblance to none other then Monkey D. Dragon. Don't think so? I'll explain. Chapter 690, page 16. In the bottom right there is a picture of Law that really caught my attention. Mostly his eye and the shape of his face. I quickly went and looked up pictures of him without his hat and pictures of Dragon.
Similar noses, almost identical eyes (even Law's 'eyeliner'). I then noticed Luffy, Law and Dragon all share a rather high hairline. I then went and looked up picture of other characters and their parents (Ussop and his mother and father; Ace, Rouge and Roger.) These characters all share a mixture of their parents physical traits. Ace has his fathers face and hair, but his mother's nose and freckles. Ussop is very similar to his father, but shares his mothers nose.
After this, and reading Chapter 731, ending on the return of Luffy's other 'brother' Sabo. I think I understand what Oda is going for. Monkey D. Luffy is half brothers with Trafalgar Law. Sharing the father of Monkey D. Dragon. Law has shown a similar personality to Dragon, not just his appearance.
One of Law's most famous lines is, 'I broke the gear'. Referring to stopping the way things have been made to go. A rebellion, in a way. Sound familiar? I'm not done yet. The way he worded it when Doflamingo asked why he trusted the Mugiwara's was too convenient. 'The name D. will once again cause a Storm'. Remember when Dragon saw Luffy off from Rouge Town? It seemed Dragon has some sort of Storm Fruit due to the green storm that allowed them to escape Smoker and the Navy.
I assume this 'Kora' was Law's mother. Trafalgar Kora and Monkey D. Dragon. However, Dragon was able to see that Law didn't inherit his 'will of D' so he left him. He became much more interested in Luffy.
This is why Law has always been interested in Luffy. Ever since his character was introduced in Sabaody he's been trying to get in with Luffy. He's been called an opportunist, but instead of taking the opportunity to end his rival at Marine Ford, he saved Luffy- probably the only person who even could. Now he trusts him without reason- to the point of dying so they can destroy the factory? This seems very out of character to how people outside of the Mugiwara's have described Law.
The Future and Sabo
Now, the only person who dresses like that, could be talking to a Revolutionary, and would make Luffy cry like that is undoubtedly Sabo. It's him. Luffy's first 'dead' 'brother'.
This is the perfect opportunity for Luffy to have a major character development. If my theory about Law and Luffy is correct, Luffy will eventually discover the truth. His real, half-blooded brother and Sabo his brother through bonds. We will eventually have Luffy being forced to choose between the past or the future. Sabo or Law. Blood Family, or Family through Bonds.
Who do you think Luffy would choose!? Do you think this could be true!? Let me know what you think!
