That said, let's be honest, taking the context into consideration, it does seem to be a contradiction. Kishi is heavily portraying that Madara awakened his sharingan due to severing his bonds with Hashirama. It was a climatic moment; he's being very explicit. The father even says something like, "Looks like we've gained something." Like I said, he most likely kept it a secret, but Kishi goes out of his way to explicate the broken bond and the powers that arose from the division. We also read from Tobirama how an Uchiha awakens their eyes.
In the first page you provided, we saw Madara nearly slip and say he has a sharingan. We then have to tell ourselves, "Well maybe he didn't tell anyone". While logical and most likely the case, it undermines that climatic moment.
In my opinion, it could have been done a bit better. There's some things Kishi shouldn't have to hold our hands on. Then there's some things that feels like we create the logical reason, simply because a logical reason can be found.
