There is no right or wrong answer to this question. It's based on morality. A lot of people would choose to save the people they know, (it's extinct and it's emotional) rather then save complete strangers who would later leave their savior and continue on with their lives.
You save your family for the survival of your own life. You save your family, you continue to have a future and continue your line.
