A Realtime Chatbox for NB?

In my couple of inactive months from NB, I visited several forums, all of which seemed to have a "xat.com" chatbox. It's a live chatbox that can be stuck onto any page of a website, I suppose. I've never really hosted a website, so I don't know the specifics, so I wouldn't know about any conditions it needs.

But it's not your old run-in-the-mill chatbox. You can have avatars, post smileys, have admins who can kick/ban people for certain amounts of time, etc.

I'm bringing this up because I can't really run MSN on my computer, which is the main chat client used by NB members, and I think it would be generally beneficial for everyone if NB got such a chatbox.

As far as I can tell, they're free.

And if you're worried that such a chatbox could lag up NB, you could simply have the chatbox at a different address. The chatboxes come with their own URL, so you could put a link to the "Chatbox" up on the Action Bar next to, say, the "Blogs" tab.

I suppose this could work. Izuna Uchiha made a thread not too long about about making it so that three or more people could have a convo together, instead of just two.

Then the suggestion to have a shoutbox (or chatbox) came up.

I support this idea. Perhaps you should make a poll. O_O

its a good sugestion but i dont think there are enough admins on nb to check it all the time..and u know most people here would abuse it

Well, with the xat.com chatboxes, there are several levels of power. Here they are from most powerful to least powerful.

1. Owner (Has power over everyone else, can re-rank/kick/ban/rename/etc. at will)

3. Moderator (Can kick/ban/unban people beneath them)
4. Member (No power over anyone below them. They are the standard chatters )

I'm thinking that the administrators could be Owners, the Moderators (both normal and Super) could be Admins, and that select members of NB (perhaps the senseis) could be Moderators.

That way, there are always people monitering (<- Spelling) the chat.

I like this idea, it really works out a lot. Like you said, someone could always be watching it that way, but mods and smods will have a bit more things to do.:/

But you do realise that if a 'chat box' is made on NB it would have to be constantly watched; right?
And i'm pretty sure the current moderators already have so much work as it is.

I mean people from all these different timezones are always online on NB and if you don't want this chatbox to become a haven for spamming (random charcters, external links to 'sites') you would have to watch it pretty much 24/7.

And on a side note if your msn on your computer isn't working try an online messaging service instead..

I want a chatbox T^T lol it still posts a lot of problem tho.And the most common problem are the link poster,racism,spammer.Auto-spammer(or should i say-"spam bot") and human-spammer(the one who doesnt care anymore,or get annoyed by other so he/she decided to 'rule' the chatbox by spamming random stuff/two a-hole "fighting" in the chatbox aka attention seeker)then again people can still report about it but probably need a non-stop attention/alert.The other "small" problem is when people click 'send' at a same time(lots of msg appear on-screen at the same time^^')which also lead them into spamming.Hmm i wonder if xat. Chatbox has that anti-spam ability?Like posting more than 3 times in a row is considered spam and is automatically be given screen warning or his/her/it msg automatically doesnt appear at all,but it is most likely useless when therere a lot of people in the chatbox...But i still want it xD then AGAIN its pretty much hard to handle unless the availability of 24/7 surveillience(spelling?) or doesnt need to be any restriction at all ...>.< so what is the result here?

yeah on Tailedfox.com/forums they have a real time chaterbox and on Animeforum.com there is a chat room.

Since everyone knows that NB is a PG-13 sire or family site; the chatbox has to have

• No inappropriate topics, discussions etc.
• It would have to be only English.
• No 'Shouting' or caps lock.
• No flaming/cussing/swearing
• No 1337 speak.
• Don't over use characters/emoticons ( ex: Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or Okay)
• And since that site allows you to create your own username people might make the illusion of another user speaking.

This is a good idea but XAT sucks imo.
I think the Cyb ChatBox is the best.
It's already linked to it's forum, so only registered members can see it with that same function it can keep away people with 2 accounts.
None coding or stuff necesarry,
it has a archives
banning capability
top chatter stats
everything you might want =/
