Not sure if I can get use to the idea of new characters. I also think it would taint DN name.

The only one that should make another appearance in it should be the one that out witted L.

If they do, it would have to be something that does not involve the other characters. Maybe like an Alternate Universe/Retelling.
Maybe someone with different motives from Light Yagami could be the Death Note keeper.
