So we know that Ashura and Indra represent the Sun and Moon.

Their sigils of both Sun and Crescent moon have been made for them since they were children.

Both of their crests even marked Naruto and Sasuke after their meeting with Hagoromo.

It was stated that Hagoromo created the moon on his deathbed.

So how did anyone know what the moon was while he was still alive? Indra had the crescent moon as his symbol before the moon was even created!

There are 4 options:

1. It's a legend, it may not be true

2. It's a different planet from ours, they may have more then 1 moon

3. Those symbols may not represent the sun and the moon.... but they probably do...

4. Plot Hole

Maybe , that symbol never represented the moon in the first place and only after the moon was created , it kinda linked up?

That's a good observation. I remember in last chapter (?) they made a connection between the Uzumaki crest and the Uchiha crest. The "sun" being the signature swirl and the crescent moon being the top part of the signature fan!

Throughout 600+ chapters, we've only seen one moon, the one that Hagoromo created. So there are no two moons.

I think that the Ashura= Sun and Indira= Moon symbolism only happened after the Rikudou created the moon. But then again, this is a plothole and my explanation to this is :-

The moon was a sealing stone for the Juubi and created for that purpose ?

its because everything said before this point was rumor and fairy tail passed down orally, changing ever so slightly every time it was told. Thats why the sage created the tablet but even that was misunderstood by those who read it because it was kept secret and never studied. Was it a plot device made by kishi in the beginning to make everything rumor and fairy tail so he could change it to his needs latter? You damn right it was, its also how historically things have been fcked up in real life!

then before that how people lived?? in darkness?

The sun always existed, the moon was created by the Sage on his deathbed, but Indra had the crescent moon symbol before the moon existed.
