This is something I just noticed in Kamui that maybe was overlooked by Kishi.

When Kakashi explains Obito's powers, he says he is not transparent, but merely just moving pieces of his own body into another dimension, rather than his whole body, which makes some parts physical and is how Kakashi managed to scape Obito's mask with his Kunai.

and we see here that he only transports his torso, rather than his whole body with Kamui.

But before, Obito and everyone else kept on mentioning that for him to attack he needs to materialize his whole body and can't attack and defend at the same time. We see some examples of that below.

This means that if he can phase portions of his body, he can attack and defend at the same time, but why didn't he do that before?

He could have phased his body and not his arms during the battle with Minato.

If he phased his body and not his arms, he could have sucked out Naruto's soul using HUMAN PATH, even though both Gai and Kakashi showed up

Kabuto tried to do the same when he controlled Nagato, as shown below.

and he could've sucked out Naruto's soul with human path on multiple occasions(since it seems that was his priority), as we see that almost happening in the examples I've posted.

So, I'm at a loss as to why he didn't.....or maybe this was a simple mistake Kishi overlooked.

Plot no jutsu. Kishimoto has already stated that he didn't intend for Tobi to be Obito, so he is just on improve mode.

Well he didn't initially plan for Tobi to be obito hp but he decided to do it that way closer to the present day

Did he really say that?

I was just thinking about that. It makes no sense at all other than PNJ

I'm pretty sure he's intended obito to be tobi even as far back as the zabuza arc.

Well that's not what I was told by others. I can't find anything involving kishimoto even in English so I myself can't back this up but I have been told by more than one person that is is true. Also it doesn't make sense for kishimoto to have planned for this to happen since before shippuden AT LEAST. Far too many inconsistencies for that to be the case.

Some people believe it is some kind of automatic mode. Everthing that makes contact with the enemy is send to the other dimension. Which would make sense because Obito was able to use is intagibility perfectly when he had just awoken his MS, so he probably isn doing it intentionally.

Phasing his body and phasing parts of his body are two different things

One is Kamui the other is intangible

Obito has his first mention in chapter 4 or 5, though not by name, so I guess he did plan something for him way back. However, OT:

Didn't you just answer your own question? 1st off. The situation with Naruto, where Kakashi/Gai jumped in is no "plot jutsu". We know that Obito must materialize to absorb himself or someone. So that answers it.

I do not know about Minato, but given that it was shortly after he awakened MS, it is likely he just wasn't good enough at the time.

what do you mean? If it was an automatic mode, then why did he still get hit by the kunai kakashi threw to scrape his mask when part of his body was intangible?

You don't get what he is saying. Kakashi said that obito's ability works by making only certain parts of his body intangible at one time, and not his whole body. But then he didn't do that when he could have touched naruto with a materialized hand and have slipped his body away in the places that Kakashi and gai came from, which is actually plot no jutsu why he didn't/doesn't

Soooo...... Not only is what you said wrong, but it also doesn't make a difference. It is all kamui, and he never makes his entire body intangible according to Kakashi. Even if that were true it wouldn't stop you from making the argument that at that point he could just us kamui.

It is understood h has a choice. He has had to decide between getting hit in the real world or in the kamui world in this battle. He made the conscious choice. He couldn't control it before because he was in a rage and he just got it.

No you don't understand the situation, nor do you understand the difference from being intangible and using kamui. When he is intangible he is practically using kamui all the time. This he can only do for 5 minutes, however, it gives him a permanent defense. But in order to use kamui and absorb anything - even himself for that matter - he needs to completely solidify.

Yes he could probably have touched Naruto, but honestly. The guy doesn't have eyes in his back. How would he know exactly where he was gonna get hit. Even with the shared vision this would be impossible to know. So that is probably your answer. Anyway lets say he was sure, where they would hit. He still couldn't absorb Naruto. And had he kept his arm tangible, Naruto could have grabbed it, or Gai with his super fast nunchaku could change target to his arm. As long as an obstacle is blocking just a small part of Obitos body, like when you see that nunchaku is "inside" his head, Obito cannot solidify to absorb Naruto

I believe he was trying to absorbed Naruto's soul through "human path" which means he doesn't need to solidify any part of his body, except for his hand.

Why he didn't use human path on Naruto? Simply because he tried to capture him.

Seriously xd why the hell would he have "human path"? And besides he wanted to capture Naruto, not kill him.. It was first later when Naruto could turn completely into Kurama that Obito started to fight with intent to kill. Also it was stated in the beginning of the fight, he didn't use any of the powers the 6 path of pains had, since Naruto already knew all of these, and thus could counter it.
