1. Less people get shot(according to friedman 10,000 a year less)

2. Drug dealing is no longer a viable means of income as the supply will drastically decrease the demand

3. The cartels will go out of business and stop sending illegal camels over the border.

4. With no more cartel income, they can't afford to hold power in Mexico any more destroying their hold of Corruption in the government

5. More Tax revenue for the US

Sounds like a win win for me

Terrible, terrible idea.

Based on what?

Are people not currently doing drugs? Prohibiting alcohol created the Mob. Prohibition drugs created cartels. You just seem ignorant.

Just remember, even if its legal, it doesn't mean its right. Slavery was legal and the irish were slaves, does that make it right?

Using that logic we should go back to alcohol prohibition

Nah, your plug would be out of business. The Supply would make his demand go down

Think about it this way. If you can go to any corner store and buy alcohol right now, are you gonna go into some shady dude house and buy it? or are you gonna go to the store like everyone else?

How do you get that from what I said? It's about moderation with alcohol, 9/10 drugs would be abused and people would be dropping like flies (which leaves the dispensary at fault, like a bar being fined for serving a person drinking and that person runs someone over)

Oh you mean like the prescription drugs that are currently legal and killed 28,000 people in 2014 alone? What's the difference?

All they would need to do for the hard drugs, Is administer them like a bartender and control the dosage

There are already rehab centers and underground stuff is still gonna stay under ground.

It will just be done more openly as it will have acceptance to a certain degree. There is no way to keep the drug industry in check because bigger players are involved in it.

We shouldnt work on legalizing drug dealing but on exterminating it.

This made absolutely no sense to me. Please elaborate more clearly

8. Children will grow up in a world where drugs are okay because it's legal.

Learn the side effects of drugs and why it is not legal.

Depends on the drugs you're talking about. If it's about Marijuana just give up. Almost everybody in Europe and Northern America use it, be it legal or not (and with that "almost everybody" I'd say a good 90% of the adult population).
If it's about cocaine or other stuff **** no! They need to be exterminated

You say win win and all of your points except the frist one are from an economic standpoint, completely ignoring the negative health effects it would have. Basically this would mean that more people would use hard drugs -->the increase of overdose cases, the increase of drug related car accidents and vehicle manslaughters, more work for hospitals, socioeconomic problems etc.

I guess we should ban alcohol too. I mean we're enabling alcoholics.

DO you believe the ban on hard drugs is what's preventing people from using? Or do you think it's the fact that that shit can kill you at any moment that prevents people? Basically what i'm saying is, the people who are using hardcore drugs are gonna use them whether they're illegal or not.

I'd rather take away their incentive to A steal from me and B. Kill the cartels and petty drug crime all together

You all support bernie when he says we have a problem with prison over population, but when I present a solution, you say it's wrong.

Basically you agree that drugs are horrible for people, but you don't find the dealers personally responsible enough to do real jail time. Even though they current ruin lives. Talk about hypocrisy

Drug legalization is a really good idea, I agree. Simple decriminalization really helped Portugal and helped people there fight the drug abuse problem that had been permeating their society. Legalization takes away revenue from the black market and it establishes an openness about drug abuse so that the people suffering from it can seek and receive help if they so wish.

To be honest, if alcohol was invented today it would not get legalized. But you are comparing a legal product to an illegal product. It's a different thing to allow something that you know is very unhealthy or to ban something which is firstly less unhealthy and also secondly has been part of a public culture around the world for thousands of years.

That's why that isn't a good argument because the comparison doesn't work.

DO you believe the ban on hard drugs is what's preventing people from using? Or do you think it's the fact that that shit can kill you at any moment that prevents people? Basically what i'm saying is, the people who are using hardcore drugs are gonna use them whether they're illegal or not.

Bolded: here's the essential point. So we agree that there's a certain group that will use drugs no matter what. But which do you think will happen when legalizing hard drugs: 1) it will increase or 2)decrease the amount of people that did not use drugs when it was criminalized and illegal?
I'd rather take away their incentive to A steal from me and B. Kill the cartels and petty drug crime all together

Who do you mean stealing from you?

Bolded: I agree and that would be the greatest benefit of this idea.

You all support bernie when he says we have a problem with prison over population, but when I present a solution, you say it's wrong.
I think it's a good solution for decreasing crime, but I do however think that it would also increase health problems.

Basically you agree that drugs are horrible for people, but you don't find the dealers personally responsible enough to do real jail time. Even though they current ruin lives. Talk about hypocrisy

That's your own strawman. I never said such a thing.

Oh okay I think there's a little bit of mix up with the terms here. You are talking about legalization when what happened in Portugal was decriminalization. I actually thought they meant the same thing. I checked what happened with Portugal: and yes the new law indeed has positive effects on the society and I support it, but it's not the same thing as legalizing drugs completely:

The new law maintained the status of illegality for using or possessing any drug for personal use without authorization. However, the offense was changed from a criminal one, with prison a possible punishment, to an administrative one if the amount possessed was no more than ten days' supply of that substance

I'd rather ban alcohol and cigarettes instead of legalizing any more garbage.
