I personally believe that current rap music and a lot of the things we consider to be black entertainment is killing the community and making the black youth emulate behaviors that are rude, obnoxious, dangerous, criminal, and outright sabotage.

Rappers like Chief Keef, Tay-K, Playboi Carti, regardless of whether you like them or not, are having an influence on the youth to where they actually want to be just like these men. I personally believe these things need to be cut out and left behind, or at least consumed in moderation.

Any disagreements?

I disagree. Those Rappers are simply entertainers. They just need to tell their followers that. If their followers are influenced by their "stage" lifestyle then that is on them and their parents.

Poverty influences people, not music.

There's been numerous studies on this already.

That influence of the stage lifestyle is spilling into the community and affecting the behavior of the kids and by proxy, the community at large.

I think alot of people feel that way. It's a bit anarchistic. But then again, rap has also ties to people who wants to fight against a system that is racist so it makes sense.
I think people should make up their own minds, but if parents tell their kids to not listen to certain music then that's their right.

That isn't entirely true at all. Poverty obviously has effects however there are poor Polish neighborhoods in NY without half the crime black communities have. To say that music and other forms of entertainment plays no role is just ridiculous.

I understand it when people talk about violence in video games as well, but I don't think it should be banned, it's up to parents themselves.

Edit: I know people who belong to the alt right and likes game of thrones, but even if the alt right are not people I support I don't blame game of thrones for being a problem.

Isn't it common sense to not get on songs and talk about how many dudes you caught lacking at once, or how many drugs you dealt last week? It's common sense that some moron will be influenced regardless of upbringing. It's sort of why some groups people don't dabble in that sort of entertainment.

Art is powerful but not as powerful as self-control.

this can apply to any form of entertainment

you're oversimplifying

even frilly pop songs can be viewed in a negative light and be seen as contributing to 'irresponsible, promiscuous behavior' (the white, suburban housewives usually say)

you can spin it anyway you want to, really

if you made the argument that mainstream media is 'recipe for disaster' (like some repressed, tormented person) and that it impacts the youth, then yeah. albeit i don't believe it applies to just one single genre or one single artist/tv show/collective. i do hold the belief [pre-]teens are highly impressionable and do wind up mimicking a range of behaviors within today's society and that media does play some kind of role in it

It's a slippery slope though, almost all art has bad themes, where would we draw the line at censoring?

It's not rappers like Chief Keef, Tay-K or Playboi Carti's job to parent other people's children. A child's parent has to actually do that.....

You don't think poverty and pop culture have a cyclical effect

Because it's true environment has a huge effect

But what's seen as popular does to there's kids maybe more so then ones that live want to join gangs because of music popularizing it

Gangster rappers are no longer the most popular rapper buts it's more so because of the rapper undoing because chief need made a huge resurgence in popularity of gangster rap

Hip-Hop that sells promiscuous ***, apathy and debauchery as 'cool', definitely.

Hip-Hop that is politically relevant and earnestly addresses current, socially detrimental issues? Nope.

I think there's should be at least some governmental responsibility on what's appropriate to digest, most people come from broken homes and also parents don't control what influences their child.

A kid could come from a good family and still fall from negative influences,I personally think there should be a standard of what's readily digestible to people.

Well when we go to movies and things labeled how are appropriate it is that's censorship but seen as fine

The problem is Rap cant evolve!..

Money
Gun
clothes
Girls
Cars
Houses
drugs

If your not rapping about these things then your not a rapper..

(Things they glorify in their struggle to have somethin)

It's glorified by those who are less fortunate, rap is eating the neighborhoods apart by glorifying those materials that every1 craves soomewhat..

If you not listen to rap an are black, for the most part your looked down upon an are called names because you don't agree with the idiocy of glorifying materials, celebs & lil pieces of green paper..

(I know, I deal with it everyday with my own people)
It's turning the hood into narcissistic cesspools of hate, mostly democratic run by our own people..

(For the most part)

why is it the responsibility of entertainers to teach children?
If i child is bad is the fault of the parents. Plain and simple.

What kills the black community is the removal of the father at home.

U never hear these bullshit arguments for literally every other form of entertainment heck not even other genres of music gets this crap.
