Firstly, EMS Madara can't keep up with Gai to cast genjutsu on him. Secondly, Gai has fought the sharingan before and has developed a fighting style where he doesn't have to look into Madara's eyes to fight him.

My argument is totally valid.
First off Madara confirmed before the fight after Guy delivered a vicious blow to Madaras back that he took guy seriously as an opponent by saying that he has not been as excited for a fight since hashirama(with hashirama being the only fight he took seriously besides naruto Sasuke and guy)
Secondly the manga clearly implies that Madara intended on fighting back yet was not able to keep up with guys speed and constantly surprised by guys non stop on slaught. Madara tried to hit guy with a black orb when guy was using basic taijutsu against him(non air cannons) right there that shows you that Madara was trying to attack guy before he made the hashirama statement.. So what makes you think he'd start playing with him after being hurt for the first time as a Juubi Jin? H was only enjoying the fight because guy was a challenge... Do you think if guy wasn't a challenge Madara would enjoy the fight? Oh so let me guess you think Madara was just enjoying watching guys hair stand up is that it? Lol How obserd, you should be a comedian. Madara was getting blitzed that's why Madara was unable to respond and initially it's safe to say Madara would try and recover before engaging guy head on by heeling himself, but then again guy won't give him the time...
Some of what you say would be partially believable if the manga didn't constantly imply that Madara was absolutely serious about his fight with guy and if Madara didn't have half of his body obliterated drooling blood with his eye hanging. To be quite honest you just sound like you're making excuses for Madara getting basically out classed by 8 gates guy.
