Don't forget Kakuzu other hearts were fighting Ino Shika Cho. He leaves the 5hearts to deal with Itachi while he fights Kakashi. It's pretty much a stop like a said before.

Nothing really but that would ultimately be useless since his hearts can snap him out of it and they can still fight independently with or without Kakuzu.

Because he switches chakra's? Meaning the one paralyzed by the genjutsu is no longer driving his body :|
