Itachi had to tell Sasuke Madara's entire story before Sasuke broke out.

He wasn't really in a rush though, he just listened to Itachi's story and broke it after he stopped talking.

Itachi wasn't trying at all. He had a chance to incapacitate him multiple times. However, if he did, he would of gotten obvious chances to kill him, and with Pain, Konan, Tobi, Zetsu, and Kisame all watching, it would make it blatantly obvious that he wasn't trying to kill him, which would result in them informing Sasuke that Itachi wasn't, in fact, trying, which would lead to Sasuke questioning everything and eventually finding out the truth behind Itachi, which is exactly what Itachi didn't want to happen.

Sasuke countered everything on his own. Itachi used his most dangerous jutsus and nothing worked until he popped off Susanoo.
Was he playing when he Tsukuyomi'd Sasuke? When he tried to set him on fire with Amaterasu? I don't think so.
The purpose was for Sasuke to kill him, but he had to do it on his own, he wanted to make him stronger, but he had to grow on his own.
There was also Itachi's undercover as a criminal, which he didn't want to mess up. Going easy wouldn't help him or Sasuke at all.

OT. genjutsu is pointless, sasuke shits on each and every genjutsu itachi tries, itachi may have the edge in taijutsu but that wont make any difference as sasuke combines raiton with his katana making it deadlier, if that touches itachi, he would be numbed. if itachi gets too close sasuke can use chidori nagashi to catch him and numb him. sasuke has the edge in ninjutsu, he can also employ his cs2 for further defence and offense. sasuke wins imo

speed is almost equal...

sasuke is better at katon jutsus but that was against sick itachi...
genjutsu utilization of itachi is better but non factor...

Agreed with all points, Itachi is being severely underestimated here. Itachi shitted on him in CQC, Sasuke has superior ninjutsu but what does that mean when Itachi dodged all of it except Kirin?

sasuke has a more poweful katon than itach fact so when it comes down to it his katon > his also sasuke wont need kirin to sweep this matchup itachi cannot slit anything itachi didnt owned him in taijutsu just threw him back the speed difference is not even noticable dont know why people keep bringing it up and are you implying sasuke will get his thoat slit please exit the area he's to skilled for that to happen especially when the guy he is fighting doesnt have superior taijutsu or anything also if sasuke is lacking in taijutsu chidori nagashin or he coils himself up in snakes to take any further damage
