If Deidara can get on his bird and take flight before Itachi closes the distance, he wins. Basically the same scenario against Sasuke goes down: he uses C4 Garuda, Itachi sees the nano bombs with sharingan and uses shunshin to escape its range, while he uses genjutsu to "deceive" Deidara and make him think he's won. Then Itachi would jump onto Deidara's bird and land a fatal hit...except Deidara would see through the genjutsu from the beginning and catch Itachi in the same

If Deidara is in Genjutsu then no, he can't dodge it. When was Exploding Clone tanked by Suiton? Either way, what puts Deidara's body or his bird at that level regardless?

Doton is generally more durable than suiton on that level. Also the fact that Kakashi and Kurenai survived it at a nearly point blank range.

-Sasuke gets hit by C4 after piercing the Clay Clone.
-Deidara sees him disintegrate.
-Deidara rejoices.
-The Sharingan image appears over his head.
-Sasuke punches him in the face.

I see. Well that genjutsu wasn't the defining reason Sasuke won the fight, at that point it would be easy enough for him to take out Deidara in CQC. But the battle would never progress to this point- the only time at which Deidara would have to break a genjutsu is when Itachi tries using it to make it seem like he gets killed by C4, and Deidara would see through it like he saw through Sasuke's unless there's you can give me a specific reason why he wouldn't.

Itachi was on the edge of the blow and Deidara's birds aren't Doton. So I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here, but I'll give you the fact that they survived. Though Deidara's bird is just a giant bomb, so if the exploding clone blows up on top of it, the bird blows up too and Deidara dies.

Then what happens is, the battle reaches

point with Deidara's clone being caught in the Genjutsu, only for the real Deidara to be inside his bird. If Itachi uses Katon from long range then the battle continues as Deidara would just avoid it. If Itachi sends a clone to finish off what he thinks is Deidara, then Deidara will come out trying to finish Itachi with C4 (like he did to Sasuke in the scan I posted) only for him to be killed. Whether he sees through the Genjutsu or not doesn't help him. Even then, if Itachi fails to kill him here then the fight simply continues since Deidara has no reliable way of putting him down.

I don't know where you get this idea that only things made of rock > suitons.

The argument beans was making is that since Doton is more durable than Suiton, thus birds can tank what Suiton can tank, which is faulty logic as its not made of rock.
