the sharingan is a dojutsu mean eye technique, which is wielded by members of the uchiha clan not all of them as the sharingan for it to be awaken one must have passed through a life threatening moment and survived or one must have drained their chakra so low to the point they that the victim or person passes out/pass out. to further what i know about the sharingan, the sharingan has levels or stages. but before i go into that i would like to say that the sharingan offers it wielders keen intellect and understanding despite the stage it is, but the higher the stage the better the wielders intellect. Now moving on to the stages of a sharinagan, a sharingan when first awaken the users eyes turn bloody red with a tomoe in both eyes, thats the first/initial level of the sharingan, with that the user is able to see the flow of chakra, also diffrenciate between the chakra signatures through colour and most importantly track speed to a certain degree, and the best thing is it is capable of recognizing d ranked genjutsu, now with enough training the user who already posses 1t sharingan will be able to acquire a 2t sharingan which has the same capabilities as the first one but it is even better, as it can track faster speeds and due to the eyes being able to track faster speed, thats how a sharingan wielder is able to have the best reaction and also predict his opponent movements as the opponent would appear to be moving slowly, and also it can recognize c rank genjutsu, we have the third stage which is the 3t sharingan also called the hypnotizer(atleast i call it that), it has the same capabilities as others but its even better, it can copy his opponents move, how? because as said earlier the sharingan can track speed, allowing the user to view his opponent moving in a slow manner, allowing him/her to be able to mimick or copy it, easier done with taijutsu but requires the user to know the elemental affinity to copy a ninjutsu technique, the user has a better reaction speed and also can recognize b rank genjutsu and can cast genjutsu up to A rank. i can go further into MS and EMS but thats not why i am here?

You don't have better reaction speed, you have a foresight. You can see the things coming at you but your body won't be fast enough to react to them. The 3T can also track movements up to the 2nd Gate.

I would say through chakra signature chakra signatures being colour of chakra, therefore the sharingan is able to track by following chakra, being that its able to see the chakra flow and also dofferenciate between chakra by color then it can track using chakra color differenciation.
Along with it's limited chakra sensory abilities it can also track heat signatures and by noticing minor details.
The Sharingan can see chakra but to a certain extent. For example, it cannot see through a 2 meter thick wall of earth or water. If there is an obstacle before you that prevents you from seeing chakra then you can't see it. If there is something thinner obscuring your sight then you can see slight hints of the chakra but not well enough.
Now I will hide and you will try to find me.

Thanks for you input sensei, I swear I didn't know that, but now I do. I only know that byakugan can see through objects.
Sasuke activates his 1T sharingan rubbing his face as he sensei had just punched him,
"trust me i'll sue for abuse, i'll have to find you first" now with jiraya hiding sasuke relies on his sharingan to show him the way, sasuke first looks around the surrounding area, scanning it thoroughly for signs of chakra or a hint to where jiraiya sensei has hidden himself. I see twigs and torn leaves indicating a path that someone passed through I look down and I see foot prints, I follow it and see some threads on the some small tree's, telling me that person was moving very fast that even when caught by the tree the person still ran off, at this point I start scanning for chakra signatures oncce again then I start running in the direction that the path I follow leads, still running I spot a big tree and then my eyes alert me to the fact that someone had climbed(light foot prints) the tree, and then I see faint residue of chakra little by little(the E rank ninjutsu that allows a ninja to climb trees walking up)the faint residue of chakra becomes prominent, as my head goes up the tree I look up and see a massive chakra signature in the high branches of the tree,

I haven't learnt taijutsu yet, so i'm gonna use free form, with jiraiya in the tree, sasuke has intentions of getting back at him for punching him, sasuke walks up the tree very fast and meets jiraiya where he stands, sasuke uses his right hand to punch jiraya of the tree, as jiraiya fall of the tree, sasuke follows his attack with a drop kick on jiraiya using his left leg, sasuke follows up the drop kick when he and jiraya both land on the ground with his right leg aimed to kick jiraiya's face and moving straight into a spin kick with his left leg.

With Sasuke rushing up towards Jiraiya, he sees him racing up the tree with his right fist prepared to punch Jiraiya. As he extends the fist to strike Jiraiya, He side steps by moving his right leg behind him and turning so his side is facing Sasuke. This way his back is against the trunk of the tree he was hiding in. Jiraiya grabs Sasukes extended arm and pulls it downward, causing Sasuke to twirl around the branch and fall to the ground head first. Jiraiya jumps off the tree landing next to him.
With sasuke sharingan already active, sasuke is able to see jiraiya(as in jiraiya moving not as fast as, such that sasuke wouldn't keep up) but could not predict his movement(in order words sasuke could perceive his movements), sasuke could see how jiraya moved towards the tree, sasuke could also see how jiraiya tries to grab his(sasuke) right hand, so sasuke uses his left hand to intercept the grab by grabbing jiraiya's own hand and using his right leg to deliver a backward spin kick to jiriya's face throwing him off the tree. Sasuke then jumps down the tree.

Sasuke 1T Sharingan is already active, I see you do nothing and. Suddenly the sky above me catches fire, immediately my attention is drawn to the flames above I could feel the heat of the fire, and I then notice that it is actually a ball of fire...using my sharingan, surprisingly the fire ball is chakraless, containing no chakra... I reason that if the fire had been started by a jutsu I would be able to see some residual chakra signals somewhere near the fire and also for a fire jutsu that big it would require you to first create a stream of fire then shape manipulate it into a ball of massive fire, and also you didn't jump into the air so how did the chakraless fire ball come about. Also remembering that you said you were going to cast a Genjutsu on me I start to examine my own chakra network with my 1t sharingan, looking at my hands and down my body I see my chakra swirling in an unusual pattern which explains why I could feel the heat from the chakraless fire ball. This gives me my final piece of information that I am in a genjutsu, I first of all look at the sky again(recalling what you said on how I should try and awaken my 2t), I look up at the fire ball coming down on me, I try my best to see through it, I channel chakra into my eyes, so that i'll be able to pierce right through the genjutsu, after fueling my eyes with so much chakra, focusing on how to break out of the genjutsu and awaken my 2t sharingan,.... I realise i'm no longer in the genjutsu allowing me to break the genjutsu by piercing right through it. Due to so much chakra fueled into my eyes, the flame of fire ball disappears, then I see you standing there smiling. I look up and the sky clears up with nothing but white clouds.
