Chikamatsu stand around six feet tall and is rather thin. Due to living in Kusagakure he has developed tanned skin. At his age he has grown grayish-white hair that hangs down his back around shoulder length. He also has bushy eye brows, an absolutely stunning mustache and a long beard that is tied by a tiny pink ribbon at the end. Covering the top of his head is a cap that in his youth was reddish, but now is also white. Chikamatsu is almost always wearing a smile on his face and can be seen as constantly cheerful. Similar to his puppets Chikamatsu wears a large white robe, similar to that worn by Akatsuki members in shape, but purely white with the Kanji for "Puppet Master" on the back.
Personality:
Chikamatsu is very cheerful and rarely ever takes a situation seriously. His goal has always been to make people happy through his puppet shows. He is a skilled story teller and his ability to create screen plays is revered throughout the land. Chikamatsu is sometimes referred to as the "Japanese Shakespeare". This loving attitude has its limits though, in battle he is a fierce opponent, willing to die to protect those around him.

Monzaemon Chikamatsu (近松モンザエモン, Chikamatsu Monzaemon) is the inventor of the art of puppetry. Originally using puppets as a source of entertainment, Chikamatsu worked diligently with several shinobi to convert the talent into a unique form of combat. Eventually, he created the Puppet Technique, in which chakra strings are used to control puppets.
Being the creator of the technique, Chikamatsu was the very first shinobi-puppeteer, and as such he created the White Secret Technique: Ten Puppet Collection of Chikamatsu. The puppets, reportedly strong enough to take down an entire castle, were designed to work together and, as such, were much more powerful than the standard puppet. One such example was the puppets' use of Three Buddhist Treasures Vacuum Destruction, which consisted of the combining of three puppets to create a vortex that sucked in everything in range.
Each of the ten puppets were controlled by a single chakra string from one of the user's ten fingers. It is unknown how Chiyo acquired them, but she was skilled in their use, as seen when she used them in her battle against Sasori.
With the production of his puppet play in Sunagakure about the Soga brothers, (The Soga Successors or "The Soga Heir"; Yotsugi Soga) Chikamatsu became known as a playwright. The Soga Successors is believed to have been Chikamatsu's first play although sometimes 15 earlier anonymous plays are contended to have been by Chikamatsu as well. Chikamatsu also wrote plays for the kabuki theatre between, most of which were intended to be performed by a famous actor of the day, Sakata Tōjūrō. After, Chikamatsu wrote almost exclusively Kabuki plays, and then he abruptly almost completely abandoned that genre. The exact reason is unknown, although speculation is rife: perhaps the puppets were more biddable and controllable than the ambitious kabuki actors, or perhaps Chikamatsu did not feel kabuki worth writing for since Tōjūrō was about to retire, or perhaps the growing popularity of the puppet theater was economically irresistible.
Chikamatsu became a "Staff Playwright" as announced by early editions of The Mirror of Craftsmen of the Kazekage. Chikamatsu left Sunagakure for Konohagakure, where the puppet theater was even more popular. Chikamatsu's popularity peaked with his domestic plays of love-suicides, and with the blockbuster success of The Battles of Coxinga, but thereafter the tastes of patrons turned to more sensational gore fests and otherwise more crude antics; Chikamatsu's plays would fall into disuse, so even the actual music would be lost for many plays. After a while of preforming plays in Konoha Chikamatsu returned to Sunagakure to live out the rest of his life.
Chikamatsu was the first known Japanese playwright who did not act in the pieces he wrote. Throughout his life it is thought that Chikamatsu wrote a total of around 130 plays.
