In his off time, he can be seen drinking sake in bars and napping. Other times, he likes to chase after women, particularly his lieutenant, Nanao Ise. Kyōraku is a peace-loving man who will always try to talk his way out of a fight, though he doesn't wish to insult opponents by refusing to fight. However, he does insist on fighting when the situation is grave.

History:
Shunsui was born in the village hidden in the clouds before the 2nd shinobi world war. When the war came around, Shunsui was just barely young enough to avoid getting drafted to help the cloud in the war effort. However, his older brother Jūshirō, was not so lucky. Jūshirō died in the war, and due to this traumatic experience, Shunsui became a pacifist who had a heavy distaste for fighting. However, at the same time, this experience also made Shunsui desire the strength to avoid suffering the same fate as Jūshirō, so that those close to him wouldn't have to suffer for him like they did for his brother. In spite of Shunsui's desire to gain strength, the experience affected him: ever since he has been slightly apathetic, drawn to sake, and a bit cynical.
