This is my screenshot let's play of Pokemon Emerald, but with a twist! I'm going to be playing through this with an essence of Nuzlocke. If you don't know what a Nuzlocke is, then you should go google it, but essentially there's a set of rules I have to play with. For your convenience, I'll provide you with all the information which I'm playing with.

- I'm playing Pokemon Emerald for this challenge.
- I'm using an Emulator for this, so I can screenshot for you.

Rules
- I am only allowed to catch the first Pokemon I see in each area. A city is an area, a route is an area, a cave is an area (different floors do not count as different areas).

- This takes effect as soon as I obtain PokeBalls.
- If I accidentally kill the first Pokemon or run out of PokeBalls, tough luck.​

- If a Pokemon faints, consider it dead and release it/box it. I'm not allowed to use it again.
- The Battle Style must be on SET.
- Legendaries cannot be captured, instead that must be killed.
- No trading with another game, whether it be another Pokemon, an egg or anything.
(In-game trades do not count)
- If I black/white out, my game is over and I lose.​

These are the basic rules which I will follow while playing this. In the mean time, I will post updates as I casually play this game, and yeah. I hope you all enjoy yourselves while reading this entertaining story.

You could do that, but that wouldn't be exactly fun. Who'd want to spend a bunch of hours training in the grass where the best XP you're gonna get is a level 4 Lotad?

And yes you're allowed to run away from battles. If it's not in the rules, assume there's no restrictions to it.

Of course, but that's not the point. The point is trying to get through the game without losing any Pokemon.

Hopefully my next post will be my first update, so keep your eyes peeled! Just hope someone posts beforehand so I don't double-post.

This is a personal screenshot thing for me. If you want to make your own and play, it's fine by me, but just don't post it here yet. Maybe this could be a collab thread if lots of people want to do it.

Update #1 A New Beginning

As usual I started off a new game like any other game would with thit sort of challenge. I began by listening to Prof. Birch's introduction and then being asked if I was a boy or a girl. Naturally I'd choose the girl because I always do, and I named myself as well.

From there he explained about more things and how my own adventure it about to unfold etc. and then I grew smaller and was eventually stuffed inside of a truck because your mother is Pro-Child abuse.

After moving into my new house and listening to making Pokemon move for us because it's convenient, I went upstairs, smuggled the Potion out of my PC and set the time. I watched TV for a while and left to see my neighbour, Brendan, who btw is a sexist bastard.

After that, I thought it'd be wise to explore the unknown land completely unarmed and without any protection. I ran into Prof. Birch who apparently can't tell if someone is a man or woman and he was being chased by a Zigzagoon.

As obliged by the game I am forced to help him out, so I chose Treecko because out of those starters it is obviously the most pimp out of all of them. I also beat that lousy Zigzagoon to a pulp.

After rescuing him we went back to the lab, and I was told to go see Brendan because I presence would make him happy. Also before leaving was prompted to nickname my Treecko, who is now named Jeremy.

On the way there with my new Treecko, I trained him a little bit in Route 101 and went to Oldale Town. Interesting fact about that place, the buildings with the blue roof is a Pokemon Mart.

From there I healed, went forward some more to Route 103 and met up with Brendan. He requested a Pokemon battle so I happily obliged and beat him up for being sexist to me.

So after that we decided to hightail it back to the lab where Prof. Birch would be waiting for us. I got there and he game me a Pokedex so I can record Pokemon data for him. Hooray for child slavery!

I left to get out of there before I'm forced into any more child slavery for him and ran into my mother, where I learnt you can't run unless you're holding down "B".

Okay, so after that, I ran to Route 101, and the first Pokemon I found was a Poochyena. Since it's the first Pokemon in the area I found, and I'm obliged to catch it, I caught it naturally and named him Mang.

From there I went up to Route 103 since it's not that far and caught a Wingull, which I named Katon.

Next was Route 102, the route I couldn't go to before because it was blocked off by a douchebag who thinks he's a rare Pokemon. But anyway, first Pokemon there was a Wurmple, which because of lameass crits, was killed, and I can't catch another Pokemon in this Route.

After a few battles involving Bug Catchers, top percentage Ratatta and a lil' lass, I made it to Petalburg City, where I would box Katon and Mang for future use. Went to see my Dad, Wally bursted in on us and wants to catch a Pokemon. Since I'm the expert on it, I have to help him catch a Pokemon.

After that I was told I couldn't challenge my Dad until I was stronger, which really isn't fair, and I went to set off only to be interrupted by Scott, who didn't even want me, even though my body is ready. Obviously not enough for him.

And that's where this update ends.

I'm hoping to get past Brawly at least, since he's a general halt point in Nuzlockes, especially in Emerald.

Yeah, Brawly is a hard gym for Nuzlocke. I used to play Nuzlocke but now I've decided its not worth my time.

try to get a rock or ground pokemon...cuz ur treeco is screwed when u randomly fight a flying/fire poke like an onix or something u would own with an onix....u proly wont get 1 tho

btw y didnt u pick mudkip hes a boss....i mean treeco is too but starting with the water poke is usually the easiest

I don't want to use them, so they will be there for any backup I may need. I'm really waiting on whether my first Pokemon will be a Taillow in the next route, so if it's not I'll use Wingull, since it's a flying type and will fare well against Brawly.

As for the Rock type issue, there's nothing until Dewford Town and even then it's Geodude or Aron. With fire types, the first ones don't appear until after Mauville, and Treecko is strong enough to handle some pesky birds.

Chapter #2 Roxanne (Put on the red light)

I had reached the end of Petalburg, and had to venture onto Route 104, where the Taillow await. Unfortunately my first Pokemon was instead a Poochyena which I caught and named Zerabitu. But because she wasn't canon/strong enough, she passed away and wasn't in this Nuzlocke anymore. D:

There's a few trainers here for training on, which isn't all that great, but I did pull out Katon and started to use him because I couldn't find a Taillow. Next is Petalburg Forest, where I found myself a Wurmple. It's evolutions are quite favoured early on in a run like this, so I decided to use her, and so the was named n00b.

A little further on there's an Aqua Grunt who's trying to mess with a random bypasser or something. He's got some important papers, so I beat the shit out of him. In exchange, I got one of his great balls. WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?

I finished that area because it's a lot smaller than I thought it would be, and made it to the second half of Route 104, filled with flowers and more trainers. Through this training I endured, n00b managed to evolve all the way up to Dustox, so I'm planning on saving her for Brawly.

I had finally come up to Rustboro City, the first big city in the game, home to Roxanne the first gym leader. Her Rock Types were no match for me, since I was so strong (considering I'm underleveled) and yeah. Katon really took care of the entire battle really, she was easier than I thought, since I have a weakness in her Rock types, but I guess lucky confusion is awesome.

That concludes my second entry for this thing.
Now what I would like to know is this from you guys. Would you treat Route 104 (North/South) as two different routes, or the same route?

You mean the routes? Well they're not named two different things, it's just a route with Petalburg Woods in the middle of it, so I really wouldn't know if you'd consider it two different routes or not.
